"Diets? We don't need no stinkin' diets!" alexdg1 "weighs" in on romasuave's W/O

The Bottom Line I'm too thin to have much of a, um, Bottom Line.

Whoever said "You can't be either too rich or too thin" was nuts. Being too rich means more tax-related issues and far too many hangers-on looking for handouts, and being too thin...well, it's just as unhealthy as obesity. So therefore while most of the entries to romasuave's The Diet and Exercise Write Off, are mainly about weight loss or maintenance, my contribution will deal with weight gain....

Roman, thanks for hosting this Write Off!

1. What is your current Weight? (optional)

119 lbs.

2. What is your goal weight, or how many pounds do you want to lose?

Actually, I need to gain weight. So my goal is to reach 125 lbs. My doctor wants me to gain at least 5 lbs. It's not easy; my appetite, which is normally quite healthy, is unnervingly low. Fortunately, I'm wise enough to at least nosh on cereal bars and drink Ensure, as well as eat two square meals a day (breakfast and dinner).

Right now, given my current emotional state, I'm waging a war against apathy....

3. Are you currently on a diet regimen? If so which one?

I'm basically simply eating enough to keep from getting anemia or malnutrition.

4. When did you begin your current plan and how's it going so far?

I've been trying to gain the nine pounds I started losing since late April. I've gained, oh, three, and I don't walk or do much exercise, but gaining those six pounds are my priority....

5. What other diets (if any) have you tried in the past? What were the results? N/A.

6. Do you include exercise with your diet? If so what activities or workouts are you performing? I used to walk twice a day, but the hot Miami summer, a sense of apathy, and the fact that I burn more calories than I consume (or so it seems) have all conspired to end this activity. I still climb stairs (my house has two floors) and walk to bus stops and to clients' houses....so I'm not quite a sloth yet.

7. What was your most dramatic weight loss?

Unintended weight loss, at that....12 lbs in the fall of 1999.

8. Have you ever gained back the weight after a diet? If so why?

9. Out of the following: Neck, arms, legs, calves, abs, shoulders, back, chest...which do you feel is most defined?

I'm naturally thin as a rail (see my Epinions profile photo), and I don't really do any weight-training or body-building, but I do walk and climb stairs, so I'd say my legs.

10. Which area from the above mentioned do you feel needs the most work?

Well, if I had any incentive, I'd say everything.

11. What is your impression of the "real women" ads you see on billboards advertising skin care products (women in white bras and underwear posing and smiling)?

I've never liked the Twiggy-thin look on women, and as sexy as I used to think Playboy Playmates were, I think the you can't be too thin myth has messed up women's psyches and created unnecessary health problems for lots of people. That's not to say I don't find trim, athletic, and health conscious women attractive; I have liked women of various body types, including the latter.

That having been said, since my first lover was not exactly a Victoria's Secret model, I guess the "real women" campaign is a positive development.
