| badbonz0007's Full Review: Underdog |
If your kids like animal movies this is the one that you should let him watch. This is a very nice wholesome movie about a superhero flying dog that tries to catch a villain that wants to take over the city and the world, by using his genetic results from all of the tests that he did. We let our daughter watch this, because of the cute looking beagle, every time that she saw an advertisement on TV, she would just moan and groan with excitement to let us purchase the DVD for keeps. The first time that anyone ever saw Underdog was back in 1964 as a Rhyming Canine Superhero. In the year 2007 they try to copy and master the effects of this canine back in 1964. Back when it first came out you never really knew how Underdog got his superpowers. In this particular movie, there is an accident in a mad scientists laboratory, where a bunch of chemicals get dumped on this dog and all of a sudden this dog has the power of flight and speech plus super hearing. When you first see this movie they start out by showing you scenes from the original 1964 version of underdog, a kind of brought back memories.
This movie starts out, where there are showing a bumbling bomb sniffing beagle that has gotten fired from his job. This is when he gets kidnapped by a mad scientists, Dr. Simon Barsinister (played by Peter Dinklage), which tries to do experimental mutation of different animals and tries to put this to use on this beagle. During the transformation and mayhem that ensues from the mad scientist trying to inject this into the dog, he escapes and is found by a security guard/ex cop, Dan Unger (played by James Belushi) who adopts him and names him Shoeshine.
Jason Lee does a wonderful job as the voice of Underdog. Once in the home underdog gets to meet Dan Unger's teenage son, Jack (played by Alex Neuberger), who is very moody and all he wants to do is be alone. Since Dan Unger was a widower. He had to go to work during the day, and that left Jack and Shoeshine to get acquainted. This is when Jack finds out about Shoeshines mysterious powers. Jack and shoeshine decide to keep this a secret because they know that if they try to tell any one, they would never believe them that he could talk or have all these powers. Also in the movie is a female dog that Shoeshine takes a liking to come Polly purebred along with this female dog is her female human friend Molly (played by Taylor Momsen). Every time they get together, shoeshine would start to stumble and tried to impress his female friend by rhyming everything that he said.
If your child loves animals the way ours does, then this would be an excellent family movie and treat for your child. This movie will also tell children out there of the effects of drugs in your system. They will also show them how drugs can affect each one differently, some good and some bad results.
This movie is a very entertaining family movie and will last approximately 1 hour and 24 minutes, and it is one of the few PG rated movies that you will not have to worry about nudity or bad language. My wife and I and our daughter enjoyed this immensely and I am sure we will be watching this again.
