The Bottom Line Gravity, age, body shift, and the everpresent temptation of delicious food pose quite a challenge. If only exercise weren't so much work.
1. What is your current Weight? Fluctuates between 175 and 180. 2. What is your goal weight, or how many pounds do you want to lose? 170 lbs. 3. Are you currently on a diet regimen? If so which one? No specific diet regimen at the moment. I do try to eat a high fiber breakfast and try to avoid or limit high calorie or high fat foods. Just today I bought some high fiber English muffins, on sale of course. Mostly I drink diet soda, especially when eating a Big Mac and large fries. 4. When did you begin your current plan and how's it going so far? The fiber thing started several years ago and I've stuck to it fairly religiously. My biggest problem is going light on my nightly "snack". Working 4-8 most nights, I eat my big meal around 2 in the afternoon and am fairly hungry by nine, thus eating more than I should. My will is nil when it comes to snacking or regulating the amount. 5. What other diets (if any) have you tried in the past? What were the results? The no garb diet described in a previous Epinion was an abysmal, short-lived failure. At one point I decided to try diet food to see what happens. The Nutrithin products didnt appeal to me and were too expensive. So I set out on a regimen of my own selection of diet foods like Wheat Thins, Thin Mints, Slim Jims, Almond Thins, low fat cheesecake and a few others. After two weeks I actually gained ten pounds. So much for truth in advertising! The all potato diet, much to my dismay didn't work either. Too much starch just stiffened all my joints. Ive come to the conclusion now that moderation is the key. 6. Do you include exercise with your diet? If so what activities or workouts are you performing? A year ago I got into a regular walking routine that kept my weight and waistline fairly steady. The house we've been in for a year now keeps me so busy I seldom walk just to walk other than to take the dogs out. For a while I was watching exercise tapes, but they proved to be a waste of time. All I got was a sore thumb from using the remote. I bought an exercise gadget after reading a persuasive review by Patty Therre. The first few days were promising, but I didnt have the self-discipline to be consistent. Some day? 7. What was your most dramatic weight loss? About 15 pounds after I'd reached 190. 8. Have you ever gained back the weight after a diet? If so why? My weight and mainly my waistline constantly vacillate. I have four sizes of pants to choose from in my closet. Several weeks ago I could fit into the 34" waist, but now they're pretty snug. Once I lose a few pounds I get complacent and lax. 9. Out of the following: Neck, arms, legs, calves, abs, shoulders, back, chest...which do you feel is most defined? In my Webster's New World Dictionary back has the most definitions by far, almost an entire column. 10. Which area from the above mentioned do you feel needs the most work? My abs and chest need firming. At least I think I still have abs in there somewhere. Even when I don't seem to be gaining weight my body mass seem to be shifting to the gut. Anymore it seems like everything I eat goes to waist. 11. What is your impression of the "real women" ads you see on billboards advertising skin care products (women in white bras and underwear posing and smiling)? I consider myself very bra'd minded, don't mind the ads at all, and think the women featured are attractive. In fact I actually kinda like the Rubenesque look. The ad campaign itself doesnt impress me. Its a ploy by the advertiser to seem cutting edge , profound, maybe even shocking but the real intent is profit. However, Im certainly not going to complain about pictures of pretty women in underwear. The Pounds They Are A-Changin' Come gather 'round people Whatever you're prone And admit that the body Around you has grown And accept it that soon You won't feel your bones If your health to you Is worth savin' Then you better start movin' Or you'll be overgrown For the pounds they are a-changin'. |
