I know when I wake up in the morning I am dying for a cup of coffee. My favorite brand of coffee is Peets, which I usually have purchased at the grocery store. Peets has an even better way!
At my local Shaws Market, I can usually get a bag of Peets Major Dickason's Blend, House Blend or occionally French Roast beans. A few other flavors are available if I opt for ground cofee. However, if you go to Peets online, you can choose from a whole RANGE of coffees and get it in Whole Bean, regular grind or expresso grind.
Website Design and Choices
The first tab is SHOP. You can choose from Coffee, Tea, Gifts, Essentials or Delivery Services. The Peetniks tab will also take you to delivery services. Coffee Choices
Guatemalan, Ethiopian, French Roast are only a few of the coffees that you can have shipped to your door. You can pick your coffee by region, Asia, Americas or Africa & Arabia. You may choose Dark Roasts, Signature Blends or Expresso recommendations. If you desire something a bit fancier, you may also want to try a Reserve coffee. Rarer and more expensive coffee like Hawaii's famous Kona beans or the Jamaican Blue Hills coffee and record breaking Panama Esmerelda beans can also be delivered to your door.
Peets Delivery Service
You may have a single shipment sent to you to try a particular coffee or you can sign up for ongoing deliveries to ensure fresh roasted coffee as often as once a week. The minimum order is one pound of coffee. Coffee is shipped, usually the same day as the beans are roasted. I ordered a gift pack to try two exotic coffees; Jamaican Blue Hill and Panama Esmerelda. They had a roast date for those on November 19th, and thus would not ship until then. In other words, rather than chance how long beans have been on your grocers shelf, you know your beans are shipped fresh. They roast most beans every Wednesday and ship soon after.
My first Peets coffee order was shipped UPS on November 19th, and arrived on November 26th at my door. For extra money, you can choose faster shipping, I just used standard shipping for my order. My package arrived in a large box filled with packing peanuts. The coffee cup had a layer of bubble wrap around it as well. I also received a coupon for $5.00 off my next order from Peets.
Tracking Worried about your coffee order? You can just log into your Peetniks account to see when it was shipped. Of course, just knowing my coffee was sent out on the 19th, didn't let me know just where it was in transit. However, Peets also includes the UPS Link on your order information. I clicked on that and found out EXACTLY where my coffee was in transit and when it was going to be delivered. Some online websites will steadfastly refuse your e-mails and frantic calls after a month goes by with no delivery, but not PEETS. You can track your order from Seattle to your doorstop!
Gifts & Other Stuff
If it wasn't enough to get fresh ground coffee, you can also order a wide variety of teas from Peets, or assorted gifts. I got a Peets 12 ounce coffee mug! Gifts are coffee related like mugs, carafes and even coffee makers and bean grinders. The gift packages look very nice, and if you have a coffee lover on your list, Peets has some excellent gift packages. You can have it delivered directly to their door or your door, it's your choice.
The Coffee!
What good is online delivery, without a good product? Well, Peets delivers excellent coffee beans. You can read some of my other Peets reviews, but for today, lets discuss the two specialty coffees I had delivered.
Jamaican Blue Hills One of the most expensive and rare coffees on the market, my son thought that perhaps this coffee had a little marijuana in it! $80.00 a pound is certainly more than the average supermarket coffee. However, it was indeed a 1/2 pound bag of fine coffee beans from the blue hills in Jamaica. Despite my sons jokes about my good bag of Jamaican, this coffee really is awesome. The half pound bag smells of delicious caffeine (actually the caffeine in coffee is the bitter part!) , and it is stamped across the front Roasted on 11/19/2008. Even as I opened the UPS package, I could smell that wonderful coffee aroma. Thanksgiving morning, I ground up enough beans for two cups of coffee. Soon, I was enjoying a cup of coffee of beans roasted only a week ago. I don't think that would happen at the Supermarket. Jamaican Blue Hills has a bold yet smooth taste, and it is very full bodied. Did I think it was 10X as good as other Peet's coffees that sell for regular prices? Well, no, I just tried this because you only live once. It's a very good coffee, but I have been just as pleased with many other far less expensive coffees.
Panama Esmerelda Geisha I was glad I ordered this when I did, shortly after I ordered this, Peets entire supply of Panama was sold out. This variety of coffee fetched a record $130.00 a pound a couple years ago. That is for the raw beans! Another of Peets special Reserve coffees, it is more expensive than the regular varieties ($50.00 a pound), but not as expensive as the Blue Hills. The bag also had the Roasted on 11/19/2008 printed across the front. The Panama had a very unique flavor which my palette had trouble identifying. Like the Jamaican, it is a very rich full bodied coffee, but this one had a hint of citrus and slightly sweet flavor to it. I would note that these beans are not "flavored" coffee mixes, any flavor is present in the beans themselves. I really enjoyed these beans, the unique flavor made it stand out from regular coffees. I might even order this one again, although for the price, it will hardly become a regular staple in my morning diet.
I was also happy with my new stoneware Peets coffee cup which is the color of a full city roast coffee bean! (It was also made in China).
The only thing that can beat a bag of Peets freshly ground coffee beans from your local supermarket, is a bag of freshly roasted beans shipped from Peets Online Store.
Summary
If you like good coffee, there is no need to head for the hills, just get it delivered to your doorstep from Peets Coffee & Tea Online Store. Peets gets five stars all around from me.
