It was early Thursday morning. My trusty bass had gone out on me and I had a gig friday night. I was looking for a Yamaha BB414, but the closest vendor was 3 hours away. In the past, I have made numerous orders using AMS, Musicians friend, and never had one problem. While in retrospect, it would have made sense to order from either of these trusted options, I chose to use Music123. This is where the nightmare began.
OK. So I logged on, created an account, put the bass and a few other studio items I needed in the cart, and proceeded to checkout. I realized from past online ventures, that I needed my billing\shipping info on my debit card to match. So for extra caution, I called my bank and verified this information. According to Music123, if I placed my order before 12:00, it would ship that same day. I placed the order before 9AM using expedited next day (75 bucks). So no problems, right? Seeing as how this was an especially critical order timing wise, I proceeded to call every couple of hours just to make sure everything was going ok.
Everytime I called, I was assured that everything was going well (the item was in the warehouse, on the conveyer belt, etc.) By 5PM, still no verification on shipment, tracking numbers, etc.
THUR, 5PM: They weren't sure if it would make it. They said it would either ship today or the next day. That wasn't going to work. Not receiving this item on time, meant taking friday off from work, driving 6 hours round trip, and paying a crapload in gas.
THUR 7PM: Nope, probably isn't going to make it. Great. The trip to guitar center seemed inevitable, but I finally agreed to myself that I didn't have it in me to make the trip. Luckily I contacted a friend that could let me borrow his walmart first act bass, yeah, great.
FRI 12PM: They said they'd make it up to me. They'd slot the order for Saturday delivery. I basically said it didn't matter at this point, just get the damn thing in the mail.
SAT 11AM: No shipping update. Called back. My order, which was supposed to ship Thur, did not ship thur. It did not ship fri either. I requested to speak with a Supervisor, his name was Miguel. I noticed on the Music123 site, that if the shipping schedule was not met, they would credit back the shipping amount, and give you 20% off your next order. I called him on this. I was put on hold and told this, "Sir, when you accepted (which I didn't) saturday delivery, theres no guarnatee on Saturday delivery." Huh? WTF!?!. So, because the item wasn't shipped the day it was supposed to be, and you tried to compensate by delivering on Saturday (a day late) that voided the guarantee? Really, WTF!?!. He went on to advise me that credit verification takes a day. Well, I checked my bank account 30 minutes after my order, and the money was gone. So verification took what, 30 minutes? This whole verification scheme is just a buffer for them to have an excuse to ship your order late.
Anyways, I protested, and he agreed to refund my shipping and give me 20% off my next order. With 20% off an order, I MAY try one more time, but obviously only on something that I do not need for a few weeks. My advice to anyone out there, is to use AMS or Musicians friend if you wish to order anything online. Hope this helped whoever reads it.
