Have seen about a third or so of these. 'Diary of a Country Priest' was beautiful in its austerity and deep sadness. 'Kundun' was also moving, just as 'The Nun's Story' was (I'd known little of the atrocious Belgian rulers at the time I saw it, so the jarringly supportive portrayal of the colonists escaped me then). It's been a long while since I saw 'Brother Sun' but recall it being a major hit back home when it played in theaters. I continue to be awestruck by 'A Man for All Seasons'. 'Nazarin' seemed unfinished but had a truth that has been lost in everyday ideas about religion. I haven't finished 'Passion of J of A' yet because it's so painful to watch...Shall make a note of adding 'Gospel...' to the Netflix queue. Thank you again for this thought-provoking list.

I've seen Kundun recently and agree that it's a great movie. I've seen Elmer Gantry and The Nun's Story too and are too religious. I didn't like Last Temptation much. I burned out on Jesus movies long ago. My list did include The Passion of Joan of Arc, but wasn't generally so seriously inclined as yours, IMNSHO...
