Right on! (Reply to this comment)
by angust63
I too have owned the Import Vinyl version of this album since 1985. I also mentioned to Mr. Dave as he was signing autographs after he and Wally Ingram performed here in Vancouver that I might own one of the only copies of the album in this city. He asked me what label it was on. When I said "WEA France", he looked & Wally looked at each other and they went, "Ooo . . . WEA France!" I wasn't sure what to make of their response but given Mr. Dave's apparent disdain for the commercial record business, I speculate that he probably hasn't seen a penny from this album.
Anyways, I enjoy all the music on this album and I'm very glad to own it.

Hi:
Thanks for commenting; always appreciate the comments whenever I post a Mr. Dave thing.
Your comments confirm my suspicions. I've always suspected that Lindley has been treated badly at times from Record Company mofos. His talents and eclecticism seems to be a problem for the marketing clowns that run the show.
I'm surprised this album hasn't been picked up by Rhino or some other specialty distributer. It holds up very well all these years later (20+). The Japanese seem to "get him" more than Americans. Not sure why.
Anyway, I hope to see him next time he comes up my way.
Cheers

a guestimate (Reply to this comment)

I agree that this is a phenomenal album! I was luckily able to buy it new for the import price back then, both on vinyl and CD. "Truly Do" may even be my favorite Lindley song of all-time so far!
Having talked to Dave a few times, I get the feeling that the details behind this foreign-only release are sort of shrouded in a protective secrecy. There has to be other reasons why such exquisite work was not allowed to be released in this country, and I sense that it the information is still private, as he doesn't wish to or isn't able to talk about it thus far.
As you noted, hopefully someday enough time will pass that the reasons can be tactfully released by the record company or other parties, and that the music will also be re-released and available for the U.S. market.
