Until recently I have been using a 15" monitor. It eventually died on me, so I did some research and was able to pick up a Samsung 17” SyncMaster 753DF for $200 with a $50 rebate. I won’t go into all the specs on this monitor, you can read that on their site, and numbers don’t always equate into reality.

This monitor has a VERY flat screen and looks great. I am a gamer and a coder and end up staring at my monitor 12+ hours a day, and this screen is nice and crisp. The refresh is fast enough at 1024x768 high-color to not bother my eyes at all (over 85mhz). I am actually very sensitive to certain kinds of light, so I am picky on refresh rates. Basically, you will be very happy with how everything looks, and how your eyes feel.

The controls are on the front of the monitor, and they are easy enough to use, and are all on screen digital. They have the normal type of controls (move, stretch, etc.) and some more advanced ones (pincushion, tilt, etc.) A 3.5“ disk also comes with the drivers (no CD, just a disk), and I had no problems installing under Win98 or Win2000.

The monitor itself is very heavy and does take up quite a bit of space on my desk, but until I get a thin flatscreen, I don’t think there is anything that can be done about this.

Basically you get a really nice monitor, at a very good price. The one thing that I have noticed about this monitor that separates it from the rest is a special coating it has on the screen. It is some kind of anti-glare that works very well. I have looked and many other monitors with sun blazing through a window, and I can’t see a darn thing on the screen. This anti-glare coat actually does cut down on glare though. I am not saying to sit it directly in the sun, but it does a pretty good job at cutting down glare, better than any other monitor I have used.

In conclusion, I would recommend this monitor to anybody that wants a 17 inch flat screen, don't be fool by the good price, it is worth much more.
