How to Pick the Perfect Vacuum for You in 5 Easy Steps!
Oct 10 '05
The Bottom Line Decide what YOU want but keep an open mind, try it before you buy where they know vacuums and research your choices first.
Vacuum cleaner buying guide.
Recently I went out shopping for a new vacuum. I had heard so much hype about one vacuum I almost made the mistake of buying it without doing my usual legwork. I did the legwork anyway though and I am very glad I did.
Here is some advice that occurred to me while on this search.
1: Dont buy a vacuum cleaner you havent been able to try out first. If you want to buy one off the internet, at least try it out at a local store first. It might look like the neatest vacuum on earth on the net, but if it isnt comfortable for you, you arent going to be happy with it and anything that big is a real pain to return via mail.
2: Decide what is important to you. There are tons of different features for vacuums, but are you really going to use that massage attachment when the machine is so loud that you cant hear yourself think? Some of the things I found were important to me were ease of use, edge cleaning, noise level, and. Of course, how well it cleans. Length of cord and cost of bags are some things people might not think about until they get it home but can be very important in your actual experience of use. I, personally, love gadgets. I am always buying this or that gadget just because it acts in unexpected ways and is clever but I found that when shopping for a vacuum, I wasnt nearly as appreciative of gadgets on my vacuums. I mean, when I want to vacuum a floor, I want to get it over with, not play with gadgets.
3: Keeping an open mind is important too. I had one vacuum in mind when I went out. It was a bagless vacuum and had all kinds of gadgets. The one I bought was a conventional upright and was very simple to use. After looking at the other vacuum, with all the buttons and gadgets, I realized I was going to be spending a lot of time fiddling with it and that I wasnt going to want to use it after a time because of those same features I thought I wanted when I began. If I had been stuck on the idea of a bagless, I would have never even looked at the one I actually bought. Also, I had never heard of the brand name of the one I ended up buying. Had I been stuck on a brand name, I would have really missed out.
4: Go to a place where they know the vacuums and can answer your questions. duh and I dunno arent acceptable answers. If they service what they sell, that is a great bonus. There are a lot of places that you can buy a vacuum without trying it out. Unless you have seen it in action at a friends house or something you might want to pass on these places. Vacuums are sort of like cars in this way. They can look really cool but you really cant know if that is the one until you have tried it out.
5: Do some research online. If there is a problem with a vacuum, or anything else, chances are someone has posted something about it somewhere. Amazon, Consumer Reports and, of course, Epinions are good places to start when researching just about anything online.
Well I hope this review helps you find the perfect vacuum for you. thanks for reading.
