Vanity Thy Name is Botox

Botox isn't for everyone. If it is for you make sure you have a good doctor and that you don't look as if you are in a Halloween costume!

It probably isn't digestive problems that causes Sjogren's. The reverse is true though what we put in our bodies does seem to help or hurt though again there is only anecdotal evidence on that. Other than research on ALS and Parkinsons where patients were given certain foods and vitamins and did better, there is so little research on the cause of autoimmune disorders. If we can get stem cell research funded it would help a whole lot! Especially for MS, ALS and Parkinsons. jo

Interesting. They don't know, heh. It may be none of those things as well. They may be triggers of the real problem, such as digestive problems. I've read that that causes a majority of our health problems.

... I'm not at the point where I'd look into this yet (40), but I'm sure I will be in the near future. An enjoyable read...

They don't know. There are theories and a virus is one of them; genetics is another. In most cases someone in the family has had some type of autoimmune disorder though often not even diagnosed; the environment and the toxins in it may play a part as well as stress. I run a SS support group. It seems that every one can pinpoint a trigger. In some it was a cold, in others it was a stressful time and in most someone else in the family has something.

I will certainly update this review if I have any symptoms that would point to Botox. jo

Thanks for your reply and info, Jo. I hope you'll update if you experience any problems. Now I have to research Sjogren's cause what is it? Caused by a virus maybe?

"Patients with blepharospasm will usually respond to Botox injections (Allergan, Irvine, CA). Relief of the eyelid spasm greatly improves symptoms. Occasionally, following Botox, patients will experience new symptoms of dry eye that can be attributed to inability to close the eyelids (lagophthalmos) or an underlying mild dry eye condition. These normally respond to the typical treatment for dry eye. The use of Botox is of great importance in treating patients with blepharospasm"

So in any case one of the first ?s I asked my doc was if any facial procedures were contraindicated and she said no. jo

No Sjogren's is not neurological unlike MS, an autoimmune disorder. No problem with the Botox and I never even had a headache. Thanks for the concern though. Appreciated. jo

But isn't Sjogren's Disease neurological? Autoimmune diseases are neurological, but you still had this done? I'm confused, jo. Hope this works for you.

I was surprised when my doc said she could do a little Botox around my mouth to easy the lines. I do understand the concept:) i.e. drooling but I think she'd hit my upper lip - I'm not sure and I'll worry about that down the road but she definitely said it was an option. Restylane in the mouth area doesn't work either unless you want to look like Goldie Hawn! jo

I didn't think you could use Botox around the mouth - that's filler area. At least that was what I was told when I was thinking about it. I didn't do it because my doctor said I don't have lines that visible to the eye unless you use a magnifying glass (she lies!) but I may when the time comes.

I found a topical serum that actually relaxes the little lines enough to make them invisible to be for now. But when the time comes that it doesn't work....I'll reconsider.

But anyway, yeah, I heard lines around the mouth cannot be treated with Botox. You need those muscles around that area to work and could end up a drooling mess.

I am glad you got good results!

You should not drink alcohol for a couple of weeks before your injection.

Botox doesn't make us live longer, it just seems like it lol

Well done for posting this, Jo. I'm sure there's many people out there curious about the procedure.

I'll write about Restylane - I love it. I meant to say in this essay also that my dr. told me that if in 2 weeks I don't see the results I expected to come back and she'll inject a bit more free of charge. jo

I had my first Botox about four years ago, also at about $500. I haven't had any for about two years now, but plan to again sometime next month. My doc has discount coupons in November, and that's always a pretty good deal. Also thinking of trying Restailyne.
