If I am writing poetry -- OK, I'll admit this is a stretch to call it poetry -- but why should there be a word count? It messes with me, and I am stressed already. Oh little brown mouse. You thought you had the run of my house. Constantly teasing and tormenting. Thinking that you are smarter than we are. Having no fear. Showing yourself. Outwitting us. Outsmarting the traps. But you couldn’t outsmart The Little Brown Dog. A spatter of guts on my kitchen floor. A brave boy who scooped you up. Out with the trash. Oh little brown mouse. You will not be missed.
