My college roommates first told me about the BMG service. They were in the middle of building what has to be one of the biggest CD collections I have ever personally encounterd. They must have had in the neighborhood of 2000 -3000 CD's.
I enrolled in the BMG service as their referral and they of course got their 4 free CD's. I got my 12 free CD's, bought 1 more at regular price and then cancelled my subscription. I did enroll my father and sister at my home address, got 12 CD's for them and bought one more at cost for a total of 13 CD's as a Christmas gift for each. It was an inexpensive gift considering what CD's usually cost.
One thing to be aware of is the fact that BMG will send you your monthly card with the feature selection. If you don't remember to send in the card telling them you don't want that months selection you will get it in the mail and either have to pay for it or pay to return it. Lesson, don't forget to return you card. If you do get the feature selection and you know that is what it is when it arrives, DO NOT OPEN IT, write "return to sender" on the front and leave it in your mailbox. That way you won't have to pay the return postage.
The choice of CD's is excellent.
Oh, and how my friends were working their little CD scam... They enrolled (John Smith) got 13 CD's for $15 bucks. Then referred a friend (John A. Smith) got 4 free, got 13 for $15. Then referred a friend (J.A. Smith) got 4 free, got 13 for $15. Then they referred a friend (J. Smith) got 4 free, got 13 for $15. Then of course they cross enrolled each other changing the street address, name, spelling, etc whatever to make it a new person. As you can see this adds up quickly in the free CD and a lot of CD's for a few bucks. I am unsure as to the actual ethics of this plan, but they can't be good. But, hey, if you want to build a huge CD collection then this is one possible way.
