Any little ones out there that would love to go to school? Anyone terrified of their first day of Preschool? Ok, Ok....Anyone a Baby Bop fan?
This is a beautiful book that I absolutely recommend for any child (especially those who like Barney) who is inquisitive of what goes on in school or will soon be headed to Preschool.
Physical Aspects
This is a small square inexpensive paperback book. It was written by Mark S. Bernthal and Photography by Dennis Full. It was published by Barney Publishing, a division of the Lyons Group in 1996. (ISBN: 1-57064-075-0. It has 21 pages to be viewed. The pages are made of higher-quality glossy paper which will not tear easily. You can understand the story without reading the words. It would not take long to read this book to your child at bedtime. Baby bop is in almost all of the pictures, Barney is only in two pictures. The photos and words are on a Manila background.
Unlike many children's books, this one has PHOTOGRAPHS instead of drawings so you are getting true-to-life pictures in this book. There is an equal number of boys and girls pictured in this book and from several different ethnic backgrounds. There are a lot of bright colors and the photography is just superior.
Who is Barney?
Barney is a purple dinosaur often seen on PBS. He's been around for 10 years so your child probably has seen him. Baby Bop is a baby dinosaur that is green. Baby Bop and Barney are pictured on the cover.
Story Line
Barney drops Baby Bop off at preschool for a visit. Baby bop is shown where to hang her blanket and introduced to blocks, cars, guinea pig, sand table, music class, finger painting, story time, pretend time, snack time, playground, and then prepares to go home. Barney picks Baby Bop up and says the picture she painted is "Super-dee-duper!"
Drawback
The first page has a picture of Barney, Baby Bop, & BJ reading a book. It says
"Presented To _____from _______ 19__". Unfortunately it's now 2001 so that's going to be a show stopper although I bet you could put a sticker on it, tear it out, or ignore it. That page may not be in there now, I don't know.
My Thoughts
Your child will probably love looking at the children in this book the best. They will be able to see with their own eyes how much fun preschool can be. I think that doing the book in photographs rather then drawings adds a lot of credibility to the book.
Age
I would say this book would be suitable for ages 3-5. This is designed for children who have never been to preschool before.
