I bought a this tv on september of 2000 thinking " is expensive but I won't have to buy another one tv for at least 10 years". What a mistake, this tv was in storage for 4 months until I got married and started using it, but when I first bought I test it to see that it was in working conditions and I notice that the tv was displaying a rainbow like colors on the middle of the screen when the component input from a dvd was used, so I called sony and they send a tech to check it out, they took the tv to the shop for the problem and had it in the shop for a week, their answer was that they could not find the problem, that maybe it only happened on certain dvds or that it was my dvd player (it was not the dvd player because I used 2 differenet ones, both brand new) but when I had it at home it would happen all the time and this would bug the hell out me, so I decided to use the S input and forget about that, it's not like is broken, everything else works fine!. Almost a year later this past september I was watching tv and all of the sudden the tv turn off by itself, so I'm thinking maybe I pressed the power button by mistake, but when I tryed to turn it back on, surprise!!!!! the image or sound would not come on it would just sit there blinking the "on/standby" LED spitting out a code, I unpluged it for a couple of hours and then it would turn on and work fine for about 4 to 5 days and then the same thing would happen, at this point I only had 3 days left on the warranty ( parts only). So I called sony againnnnnnnn!!!!! and wasted a lot of time before I could speak with a someone they put you through so many machines that by the time you talk to someone you are really p....ed off!!!!!, I reported what was the problem they told me to try a couple of things that I had already tried. They send another tech to pick up the tv, when I called the shop a week later they had not seen the tv fail yet so I waited another week, and they told me that they are going to replace a board, and that they had requested the board from sony but that they no longer make that board, What?????????????? How can sony not have a replacement part on a product that has roughly 2 years on the market???? When were they expecting it to break ????? 2 weeks after it was put into regular use??? or they expect me to blow $1200 or $1300 on a new tv because they don't have a damn part. The sony representative for the electronic shop that the tv is in told the tech that if they can't fix it by replacing the picture tube with from 1 of the 2 "scrap tvs" that they have in the shop that they would send me a new one. What???????? that's unacceptable how are you going to patch this, you literally telling me that you are going to patch it for a couple of months maybe year or whatever this patch last, and then you are on your own!!!!! . Totally disapointed with Sony unfortunately my dvd is also sony I'm praying for this one not to break because you go through a lot of bull.... with this company. To tell you the truth I don't want that peace of crap, I want a new one (yeah right, like I trust anything from sony), because my confidence in sony is gone, this is the last product I buy from them. I will update on the outcome of this.
Update: After calling thousands of times to sony electronics they finally shipped a replacement tv which was the KV-32fv27, which is exactly the same except the color ( its a little darker) and that it brings a infrared wireless headphone. ( by the way sony sent the replacement tv without a box, no remote, headphone or manual, Im questioning myself if this is really a new tv, they should have gave me everything new this is the least they could have done to keep me happy after keeping me 4 months without a tv).
Ps... I had to pay $160 to the service center after they unsuccessfully tried to repair my old tv. (Sony did not pick up the charge) Add this to the purchuse price plus 4 months of incovinience, think again before you buy sony.
