Fireproof is a movie about an almost non-believer who used to believe but then decided it was too much trouble for the payoff to believe. He (Kirk Cameron) married a young lady (who for the purpose of this review I'll honestly say I can't even remember her real name and her acting ability was even less memorable) and went through the motions of married life. He treated his wife with little respect because he felt she treated him with little respect, yet he felt he deserved it more than she ever did.
Kirk and his firehouse buddies add a good amount of humor to this movie. Most of the actors are not very good ones but the guys in the firehouse do the best job of it. It is painfully obvious that the wife, her parents and Kirk's film parents are not seasoned actors. Watching them act is like pulling bee stingers out of your eyes. It hurts just to think about it but the plot is good and the story moves along in good time.
God in a marriage is what this movie is about. There are some good twists that really touch your heart. I watched this movie without my husband and thought of him through the whole movie. We've been married for 17 years so the movie was a good heart touching experience. I've told him about it and we plan to watch it together when he comes home from being deployed with the military.
Kirk really adds that "heart throb" touch that we 80's girls like. The story line adds that religious warmth that we Christian girls like. I feel all married couples would gain from watching this movie yet it isn't so sappy that the menfolks wouldn't want to sit through to the end. It makes you think and shows you that being married isn't always easy and neither is loving another human being but just like anything else, with a little work, God and forethought put into it, your marriage can be a wonderful thing!
