Coloring the dough for ornaments (Reply to this comment)
by wall122500
When you color the dough you put powdered color into the flour and salt, and mix it before adding water. When using liquid color, add the color to the water before mixing with the flour and salt. That way the color is not so concentrated and won't go on to your hands. Also, use enough coloring to make the dough a strong color. It will fade in baking, but come back after glazing. Here's another site with some tips, and a blog with easter ideas with instructions. http://personalized-ornaments-by-calliope.blogspot.com, and http://www.calliopedesigns.com/dough_ornaments.aspx I use this site's instructions, and they have some cute ideas too.

I made these years ago for the many groups I was working with. We added food coloring or tempera paint to the dough but you have to mix carefully as it will stain your hands. Plastic gloves worked great. We rolled some dough in long stripes braided them and made wreaths of green dough. Touched them all up with other colors for decoration. Fun projects. You are the crafty lady of many talents.
