I was a heavy metal disc jockey on my college radio station. These are my top ten heavy metal albums from "back in the day"

My only significant quibble involves Black Sabbath. While their debut album might belong here all right, don't you think their second one does too, if only for the songs "War Pigs" and "Paranoid" (and--some might add--"Iron Man")? ;-)

BTW, I have fond memories of playing (a little) rhythm and (a lot of) lead guitar with such music back in the day. Life sort of compelled me to go in different directions thereafter….

To tell you the truth, I've just never been a fan of Bruce Dickinson's voice! I know Iron Maiden was huge back then, I just never liked 'em. I did see them in concert once though! Pretty decent stage show. The other huge group Judas Priest, just didn't have enough really good songs to pick out any particular album.

I only picked Ride the Lightning over Master of Puppets because it was the FIRST really good successful Metallica album (although not their first) I love Master of Puppets too, my favorite came years later ... and Justice for All.

Def Leppard - Pyromania

yeah, you nailed that one, people seem to try and forget it these days, but its influence is huge. Same goes for Machine Head, which kicks 5/5 @ss but seems to be forgotten a lot too.

Over all, great list, anything with Van Halen, Motley Crue, AC/DC and Metallica is fine with me, although i would have chosen Master of Puppets instead of Ride....

excellent job
