The Bottom Line Who's ready to meet Epinions members?
Since my first days on this site of epinions, way back in the sun shiny days of May 2004, I've grown. Yesterday, I grew that much further as I finally had a chance to meet my epinions peers and leaders. Before I get to all the juicy details of half naked kumbaya campfire stories, perhaps I should proceed this piece with a bit of a disclaimer. It's not freaky to meet people off the internet. I've met boatloads of ladies and gents via this box of wires, and 99.9999% of the time I feel fortunate to have done so. As for Epinions.com people, they're just your ordinary Joe or Mary. Though no different than the dozens of chat parties or internet blind dates I've been on, I was still a bit nervous about the vibe in the conference room I was about to enter.
Gameworks is the video habitat of Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine,TX (just outside of Dallas/Fort Worth airport). If you want to dance for points, kill for coins, or just sweat out a game of air hockey this is the place for you. But this day in November, Gameworks hosted the first ever Epinions.com-Dallas Meet N Greet, and things went smoothly.
Of course I was over an hour late-my date (a photographer now becoming familiar with epinions.com) spent an inordinate amount of time getting ready for the event. But thats neither here nor there. After being escorted to the conference room by a Gameworks employee, we entered into a silent stare. Feeling almost like a leper with NO SPOTS, I got as clever as possible. "God this is awkward" I said to the 20 or so people in attendance, who laughed as politely as possible. Though eventually the proverbial ice would be broken, this wasn't the moment.
Now with my my raffle ticket in hand, just anticipating my IPOD Nano giveaway victory, "Gary" or otherwise known to his parents and friends as Greg managed to get me warmed up into conversation. Thanks bro...things went easy after that. Most of all thanks for caring about my opinion of epinions. It goes a long way when I get to contemplating negatively about corporate policies and whether or not the big wigs up there yonder actually care. Later I would sit down to the table of mostly music reviewers. Bob_tomato (who kindly threw a pre Meet N Greet at his pad the night before-again, sorry I couldn't make it), Mad Theory, Pyfr, a quiet soul named Blindsider, Hardcoreham and a few others. Staffers Garrett and Greg also sat with us as we chatted about page views, bad pop progressions like the Black Eyed Peas and our anticipations of current cinematic theatrical release hype Jarhead.
I wont lie, I enjoyed the hell out of some free Sammy Adams Winter Lager drafts. Three tall 30 something ouncers in just over an hour and a half to be half-a*s exact, so I'm sure my brain tentacles were nice and loose. Maybe a bit too loose, as I imagine I said a thing or two that may have offended someone. Without going into gory details of such offenses, I'll simply apologize in caveat form, and be on my way.
Anyways...that bastid Bob (just kidding Bob congrats) won the Nano, so I'll stick with my old school discs. In the meantime, I'll certainly be anticipating the next Meet N Greet even remotely near my area. Who knows by the next one, perhaps I'll have grown enough not to say foolish things like all BrYan's suck! Lol...anyways....Thanks Epinions.com *says with a cheesy television commercial smile :D*
O yea sorry I lied there was no half naked kumbaya moments.
