As soon as I catch up with myself some more... (Reply to this comment)

...I think I'll set up a local M&G somewhere.

Will let you know when and where...talking a few months away. Perhaps, sooner. We'll see...

Ciao!

I would have loved to have been there, but I have to say I wouldn't have missed what I was doing last weekend for anything. We might give some thought to New York.

And it probably goes without saying that meeting you also made me confront some of my own prejudices - I'm really grateful for that.

No invitation necessary - all you need do is let epinions know that you are coming to the event by RSVPing through the link to the event in the member center.

Please do come - there are several people who'd love to meet one of the best new music writers of the year...

Tony - yes, I think turnout was relatively low, but I'm not sure that will keep Dallas from having another official MnG. I do know that the hurricanes interrupted the plans of several people who wanted to come, but then could not due to more pressing demands at home. The recent spike in gas prices might also have had something to do with lower turnout from those who might otherwise have driven here.

Amy and I are thinking that we will try to set up an unofficial MnG in the area next year. No reason NOT to meet, even if the staff isn't here to hand out swag

Wow, that's a fantastic idea. And I thought we were all a bunch of complete strangers sitting in front of our computer screens. As I'm new this year to Epinions and I'm getting to be amazed at how tight the community really is, could someone just tell me if you have to be invited to attend this thing?

Just two questions Mr. Tomato. I wasn't there obviously, but the turnout appeared to be low, is that the case? If so is it safe to say that Dallas Texas will not be on the list for another M&G in the near or distant future, in your opinion of course.

After reading so many reviews on Meet and Greets, I think I must finally break down, and go to the next one that's near me, not that there's anyone out there dyin' to meet me, but well... you know.

I share your enthusiasm for the Meet and Greet but my only regret is that it wasn't longer. There are several people (including you) that I would have liked to talk to more. The event certainly was educational in that it put real people in front of us instead of computer pictures and words. Hope to see you in a future M & G.

....write up of the Meet & Greet, Texas style.

You are so right, actually meeting members makes a huge difference. I was glad that I got to meet you and Amy in Chicago and although we didn't get an opportunity to talk very much, putting a face with a user name makes it feel as if I know you both.

Books is very lucky to have Grace, and like you I don't always necessarily agree with things, I do know that she is the best advocate for my favorite category. She works hard and knows the right questions to ask or suggestions to make when the oppportunity avails itself.

Great job Bob....I knew you'd all have a great time........Make it a great day........kath

Blindsider is a shining light in the Music category.

Thanks!! :)

Great write-up, as usual. The paragraph about there being people being the usernames is awesome, and completely true. It inspires me to actually save up some money and travel. :)

Karaoke will definitely happen for us, and soon.

Top-notch take on the proceedings. And I'm glad I didn't turn out to be such a liberal rebel after all!

I wish Bill and I could have come! I'm going to start nagging him about New York, even though it didn't get us to Dallas!

Congratulations on winning your new toy!

It was great to meet you Andrew - and I'm glad that not one but TWO strong Epinionators get to enjoy that nano. Thanks for helping make the M&G a success!

...with your sentiment that we shouldn't really judge people by their screen-name and a few Epinions that they have posted. Getting to meet people on a personal level is the best possible way to make new friends from the online world.

Maybe what Epinions should do, is give away plane tickets to the next M/G for the monthly first-review contest prizes. That way, even more people will have the chance to attend. :)

(P.S. Congrats on winning the raffle)

I just wish I'd had more time to chat longer with more people. There are SOOOO many cool people in the regular writing crowd that it's a shame we can't all put faces with the screen names...well, there are some of us that folks don't really WANT to see, but we don't always have the good manners to stay indoors and away from polite society.

Cheers!
