Buy a rice cooker, and this book

Written: Jan 11 '09
The Bottom Line: Buy this book when you buy your rice cooker

This happened to be on sale at a local kitchen store with a rice cooker.    I have already tried lots of the recipes, and everything comes out just as advertised.  The level of detail is just fantastic, covering different types of rice, when and why to rinse rice, and all type of other ideas of what you can cook in it.  For instance, I was surprised to find that the rice cooker makes the best Steel Cut Oatmeal (one of my favorites), and this book even has homemade stock recipes (which are not made with the rice cooker, but used in the recipes).    It was also instrumental in helping me with my first batch of sushi, which I was going to try before purchasing a rice cooker.   In addition, there are some excellent desserts that can be cooked right in the cooker.
If I had any idea how great this book was, I would have purchased a rice cooker years ago.
Perhaps the only unexpected thing is that the some of the recipes call for both of the two types of rice cookers (on/off and fuzzy logic), but I'm so happy with the first one, I'm going to buy another one.
