Pros: Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston and the children. Okay, Marley, too.
Cons: The ending.
The Bottom Line: If you like dog stories, then you should see this one. If you have a weak stomach, then go see something else. The ending is a tear jerker!

| frzldmm's Full Review: Marley & Me |
My parents came over last night and invited us to a movie. Of course the guys went to see a different movie, while us "girls" chose to see Marley and Me.
Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston are John and Jenny Grogan. They are newlyweds at the beginning of the movie in Michigan. Their car breaks down and it's snowing. They end up at a motel room warming her toes and discussing how lucky they are to have found each other.
Then we switch to a scene with Jenny driving John to a job interview. Then they buy a house. Worried that Jenny has planned everything for their married lives, John talks to his friend at the paper who suggests he get a puppy, to delay babies. John lines up a litter of puppies for Jenny to pick one on her birthday. Marley is like the runt of the labrador bunch and Jenny loves him immediately.
The fun begins when John picks Marley up from the kennel while Jenny is away on a trip. Then the puppy antics start and the film is filled with this "bad" dog and his antics. Even a dog trainer can't get this dog to behave.
I thought this movie was done very well. I loved the way the Grogans tried and tried to get Marley to behave and he just kept misbehaving. The trainer of Marley did a wonderful job. Just when you thought the dog was going to change and behave, well, he just turned into his "bad" dog image.
The Grogans end up having not one but three children and not moving once but twice. The second time, the children are older and they move to Pennsylvania where John takes on a reporter position at one of the local papers.
The events turn to Marley here. I'm not sure but I think the bottom line to this movie was about "love, life and letting go" of a very special friend.
It brought tears to my eyes. Of course, I told my mother, my eyes were watering from my cold and my nose was stuffy because of my cold. I wasn't totally fibbing to her, but my face was wet watching the actors perform so well.
We have a black mix labrador and she can be pretty spunky but nothing like Marley was. I recently saw another bigger version of a black lab and she was as bad as Marley. I guess it comes with the breed of dog. They are high spirited and love to play and run.
The action in this movie was well done I thought. The story line was easy to follow. It reminded me of Old Yeller.
I hope I haven't spoiled it for any of my readers. The movie is a great movie. It reminded me of the two yellow labs my parents had.
Thanks for stopping in to read my review. Have a great day! frzldmm
