Kodak Warm Walnut Faceplate for 8” Digital Picture Frame: Digital Can Match Your Decor Too!

Written: Jan 15 '09 (Updated Jan 15 '09)
Pros:Nice display, remote control, takes almost any memory card
Cons:No randomization, manual scrolling not practical, horizontal pictures are a bit small
The Bottom Line: This is a very good digital frame option for those who want a good quality display that isn't too large.

It seems that there’s a digital option for just about everything these days. My walkman has been replaced with my iPod. My film camera was replaced with a digital counterpart some time ago. My latest switch to digital has been from standard photo frames to my Kodak EasyShare SV811 Digital Photo Frame . I was thrilled to be able to display my digital pictures in large numbers without printing them.

My only concern about the switch was that the digital picture frame wouldn’t match our furniture, but my husband had that cover. He had purchased two faceplates for the frame. We have been consistently using this one: the Kodak Warm Walnut Faceplate.

Aesthetics

This faceplate is made of some sort of plastic covered with some sort of laminate coating. The wood pattern looks realistic and you can’t tell it’s not wood when looking at it from a reasonable viewing distance.

The Faceplate is made to fit 8 inch Kodak digital picture frames. The perimeter is at 11.2 by 8.3 by 1.5 inches. There’s enough of a frame for you to appreciate the walnut design without being so much that the screen appears to be swallowed. There’s a small hole in the center of the bottom of the frame, preventing the remote sensor from being blocked.

This frame comes with a small AC adapter for power. It was a decent length and I found no need for an extension cord to reach the outlet from where it was displayed.

Attaching the Faceplate

The Kodak Warm Walnut Faceplate slips on to the faceplate easily. When wall-mounted, I found that it remains affixed just fine. When rested on a surface as a picture frame, it is less permanent. For the most part, it will stay on, but if moved, very little pressure will cause it to detach from the digital frame. It’s not a problem for the most part (since I don’t move the frame often), but it’s a bit of an inconvenience. A system that would have locked the frame in place would have been helpful.

Price

This faceplate retails for $19.99, though it seems to be available for as low as $14.99. It’s a little bit expensive for what it is, but I’m glad it was available as the wood tone matches our living room much better than the standard black frame would have. As much as I love technology, I’m usually frustrated that electronics often seem out of place compared to decor. This is no longer the case with my Kodak digital photo frame.
