| noangels's Full Review: Kodak Faceplate for Kodak 8-Inch Digital Picture F... |
It seems every electronics purchase warrants an accessory purchase. A digital camera can be purchased with a memory card, extra battery, and bag. A television can require certain cables and components. Though I should have known better, I was surprised to find out digital photo frames were no exception. My biggest reservation about them was the lack of customization options. It turns out, this was only a perceived problem. Several digital picture frames offer faceplate options that take them from looking like mini computer screens to traditional photo frames.
One of two faceplates I have for my Kodak EasyShare SV811 Digital Photo Frame is the Kodak Frosted Floral Glass Faceplate. It is a nice option for my digital photo display!
Aesthetics
When my husband gave me my digital photo frame, he also gave me two faceplates. I hadn't known about their existence previously, and was thrilled that one of my reservations about going digital was no longer an issue. From the pictures I saw online, this faceplate didn't look appealing at all. The same picture is shown on the box and honestly, it looked rather loud and obnoxious. I was pleasantly surprised that the actual frame is very beautiful. It is made of a frosted glass with a pretty, understated white flower pattern. It’s very cheery and looks well suited for a room with lots of sunlight. Being a neutral color, it would match almost any décor.
The faceplate provides ample frame around the screen, just enough to appreciate the pattern without overpowering the small screen. I have two darker faceplates as well, and I felt like this one gives the impression that the screen is larger. With this faceplate, the perimeter is 11.2 by 8.3 by 1.5 inches, which is the same as the standard and other optional faceplates. A small opening is located in the center of the bottom of the frame, to keep the remote sensor unobstructed.
The glass doesn’t feel very delicate, though I didn’t drop it for a more thorough test. It seems unlikely to chip over time. We used this faceplate for several months before switching off to the walnut faceplate and it showed no signs of wear.
Attaching the Faceplate
The Kodak Frosted Floral Glass Faceplate attaches easily to the digital photo frame. It is put on in a manner that can only be described as fitting it on. It sort of slips on and holds in place, without any sort of firm locking mechanism. This isn’t a problem when it is wall mounted, as there is no pressure to displace it from the proper position. When rested on a surface like a tabletop picture frame, the faceplate detaches with very little pressure. Moving the frame a few inches can displace it. I haven’t experienced a problem when the frame is left undisturbed. It only occurs when it is touched or repositioned.
Price
I’ve seen this faceplate priced from $14.95 to $19.95. I feel like the prices were more worth it for this faceplate than the others I own.
