The Bottom Line Only you are to blame.
It seems like every time I turn on the news someone is blaming someone else for their own or their childrens actions. Nobody is in control of their own body or actions anymore. Something is always to blame for your ill health: McDonalds, Marlboro, or Jack Daniels. Something is always to blame for your anti-social behavior: Doom, Marilyn Manson, or Natural Born Killers. People like Jack Thompson and John Banzhaf just feed fuel to the fire with their ridiculous lawsuits. Most western nations have Pledge of Allegiance, in one form or another. What we need is a Pledge of Responsibility: I am responsible for my actions and only my actions. I decide what is to go into my body and I accept the risks. No one is to be blamed for my ill health, but me. If I murder someone, I did it on my own accord. No video game or movie warped my mind. Advertisements may sway me and entertainment may influence me, but only I can take action. No one has the right to take away what I choose to do with my own body and what I choose to watch. If I want to be respected as a sane, sensible, intelligent adult; I must accept the consequences of my actions and blame no one else. This I pledge. |
