I was so so disappointed with everything that Alienware did. The machine went back three times for repair and on the final one I requested my money back and they even refused to pay for the collection; so after a letter from my threatening legal action, they promptly collected it and eventually refunded me.
The machine was poorly made and kept overheating. I had blue screen after blue screen. The chassis was falling apart. The CD/DVD never worked, the list goes on...
This was the fault report I sent them:
1. I have experienced blue screens on this machine. I have identical installations of software and drivers on two other Toshiba laptops and three desktops that have been running between 3 – 36 months without a hitch. Please see the *.jpg files on the desktop. 2. The casing is poor. Some pressure points on the outer casing invokes and audible mid frequency vibration. I can only assume that this is because the chassis is being altered to rub against a fan. 3. In addition, the fans seem to wind up and down constantly when the machine is idle. 3.The screen is not perfect and generally lacks good quality contrast and colour. 4. WinXP has on a few occasions reported errors writing to the hard drive. 5. The inbuilt card reader/writer is slow in comparison to my other USB2 card readers. 6. The RAM speed is not great and is a bottleneck to the system, particularly the CPU. 7. This same system is now somewhat cheaper once again on your website, which is quite discouraging. 8. The inbuilt camera is very poor under normal indoor lighting conditions. 9. External DVI video output is faulty with serious interference at resolutions from 1600x1200 and above. 10. NEC DVD does not work 11. Hieroglyphic backlight on the casing is intermittent 12. Audio output: attenuated frequencies of mainly low to mid. 13. THE AMD FX60 CPU FAILED A SOAK TEST AFTER 17 MINUTES 14. The last but I feel not least problem is constantly losing the WiFi connection.
This machine cost me just shy of £3,000. On top of the wost built machine I have ever seen or used, their customer service is utter rubbish. They are rude argumentative, unhelpful and un-knowledgeable. They evidently have terrible quality control.
I shall never buy from them again and will actively inform people to do the same.

Have a look at the Lenovo Thinkpad W700 instead.
