Opinion Summary
JUNK - offensive customer service - do not buy F & P!
by lblsa | Feb 02 '09
Pros: Looks nice with integrated cabinet fronts, runs quietly.
Cons: Breaks every six months.  Costs more to keep repairing than it did to buy.

What a nightmare! (Reply to this comment)

Hi lblsa:

I have the DS605SS single drawer version with the rounded front and it's been wonderful. I wonder if the model you own is a lemon or from a defective line.

I'm so sorry that your experience with the service has been a series of headaches and I hope that you do follow through and file a complaint with your state attorney's office.

In any case, welcome to Epinions!

Hi, and thanks for the welcome. Original warranty was two years; they covered four replacement boards, and one visit by a repairman who was unfamiliar with the entire product line. We'd hoped that F&P would identify the problem(s) with their electronics and improve the product, but early reviews here on the 605 series seem to indicate that it's not much better.

We do wish that we'd done more careful research on the brand before purchase, as with over a hundred profoundly negative reviews on essentially the same model (on this site alone) we hopefully would have chosen more carefully. Unfortunately in the middle of home construction, time to research appliances didn't get high priority, and at that time it was very new to the market.

When a flood fault occurs and I pull the drawers to find the interior of the chassis bone-dry (as well as the switch itself) faulting the loading pattern, lid seal or lid closure hardware ... strains credibility. Fisher & Pakel's own service document contains a flowchart which, in these cases, ends with replacing the circuit board. When a board is replaced, with no other changes being made, normal function is restored for six months. Oh, and it's not like the unit dried out for weeks waiting for F&P to get around to sending us a part; there is a spare sitting on the counter next to me right now.

I'm glad that you've had better experiences with them. If you'd like to buy a spare DD603, just let me know.

Your narrative is interesting, but information about the actual unit would greatly improve this review. If you update, please let me know.

Not my experience at all (Reply to this comment)

I'm wondering if there are extenuating circumstances involved that either aren't apparent to you or aren't being fully detailed. My DD603 is 5.5 years old, never had any repairs or trouble. Flood faults (F1) are sometimes caused by improper loading, items sticking up too high interfering with the drawer lid sealing or something sharp such as a knife cutting or nicking the lid seal. There was a known problem for a period of time with the lid yoke cracking and/or the lid drive motors failing, a retrofit repair kit is available. That being said, my unit has the original parts as from 5.5 years ago. I've had a surge suppressor on it since the day of installation.

I have four other F&P appliances. A washer/dryer pair now 9 years old, and another washer/dryer pair 4.5 years old. The 9-year-old washer had the clogged pump a couple times, easily cleared it myself, no tools even needed to remove the pump. The 4-year-old dryer had a couple minor issues that were also easily handled by me.

and welcome to Epinions.

I'm sorry for your bad experience with this company. I would not have been pleased with the service either.

I rated SH because there were no details about the product you purchased.

Wishing you much better luck with your next purchase and hope you will write a review about it.

Regards,
NEG

Wow, you sure had a lot of hoops to jump through! I would usually rate a review like this helpful, because you didn't give us any details about the dishwasher. (Personally I am curious about what is different with a drawer type).

But obviously, a description is uselss in this situation, as the unit was a piece of junk. What a shame, and to think you spent so much money on it to begin with!

BTW, how long was the original warranty for?

Good luck finding a new dishwasher, I would suggest reading reviews here or check out Consumer Reports before buying! I hope you find one that is very reliable.

All the best,

Sue
