Looking Back on an Eventful 2005

Dec 19 '05

The Bottom Line Thanks for the invite, Ryan!!

I think this was the year of the write-offs for me because every time I turned around, I was invited to join one. Well, this is no different. When Ryan sent me an invite to join his Best of 2005 W/O, I thought to myself, "I really have nothing to reflect on. I mean, it's not like anything has happened to me this year" (wink wink). So of course, I had to join in. I hope you enjoy my little write-up and hey, why not join in and share your moments.

The Best of 2005 Write-Off:

1. What was the best new song that you heard this year?

I didn't really listen to that many new tunes this year, as I listened to most of the tunes in my CD collection. If I had to choose, I really like Will Smith's Switch. It has a real nice beat and a good song to dance to.

2. What was the best movie that you saw for the first time this year (new release or older one)?

I saw a few movies this year - mainly on DVD or Pay-Per-View and the ones that stand out for me are the following:

Ray - Jamie Foxx was excellent in his portrayal of the late great Ray Charles and worthy of the Oscar.

Crash - Talk about a powerful movie with an impact. I saw this on Pay-Per-View and watched it about 3 times that night. A great ensemble cast that were connected throughout the movie. It's a great example of the six degrees of separation theory. I just loved this movie.

Meet the Fockers - I will be sure to monitor every individual who comes within 2 feet of my son and make sure they don't have dirty mouths. I never laughed so much from a movie. I thought I would go into premature labor.

Batman Begins - I wasn't too keen on watching it at first, but my mom kept raving about it. It exceeded my expectations and aside from Batman, this is also one of my favorite Batman movies. Loved the action, the story and the message.

3. What was the best book that you read for the first time in 2005?

I didn't get to read many books other than ones dealing with pregnancy or baby names, but I really enjoyed What to Expect When You're Expecting. It was quite informative and it helped put my mind at ease (for the most part). I should have a review about it sometime in the near future.

4. What was the best thing to happen in your life this year?

Hmmm, this might be a hard one to answer, but if I had to choose it would be finding out I was pregnant, getting married and the birth of my son this past September. Gee, I guess that wasn't so hard after all ;o).

5. What was the best thing that you tried for the first time in 2005? (Maybe you had a new food, went sky-diving, or drove across the country)

Well, I'm not sure if this counts but I'm going to say being a mother. So far, it's working out fairly well.

6. Time to brag.... What was the best thing that you felt you did this year? (Did you volunteer somewhere or win a competition? Maybe you helped a friend in need)

The best thing I ever created is directly to the right just above my Epinions name. Everyday I look at my sweet little boy and am just amazed that he's mine, he's here and he's real. If this is a dream, please don't wake me.

7. What was the best thing about Epinions in 2005? (maybe you had a personal accomplishment or liked a new policy?)

I was quite pleased with all the well-wishes, support and advice from fellow Epinion parents during my pregnancy and after Elijah's birth. All the advice I've received has been extremely helpful and I really appreciated it very much. It just goes to show you that there are still thoughtful and considerate individuals out there without any hidden agendas.

8. What did you feel was your best review in 2005?

Looking back, the majority of my reviews were either write-offs or editorials on my pregnancy and I enjoyed participating and writing about each and every one of them.

9. Who was the best new writer that you came across on Epinions this year?

october1176 - I haven't read too many of Becky's reviews, but the ones I've read so far are well-written and informative. She's a fellow mom who offered well wishes in a couple of my editorials.

10. Finally, What is the best thing that you are looking forward to in 2006?

A lot of firsts for our new family. The first time I get to celebrate Mother's Day, Father's Day, my 1-year anniversary, Elijah's first birthday and all the wonderful things he'll be doing up until his birthday. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm absolutely loving motherhood!!!

***************************************************

And there you have it - my year in a nutshell. I'm pretty darn proud of my accomplishments this year and can't wait to see what the future holds. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy 2006.

Take care and thanks for reading.
