Musician's Friend Online Music Store There is certainly no shortage of online musical instrument vendors to choose from today, and making a choice of which Internet dealer you can trust is therefore not an easy task. That is of course if you have not dealt with very many. Over the years, I have dealt with 6 of the largest online major national musical instrument dealers at one time or another. One of the best I have dealt with, and one that I will continue to do business with in the future, is Musician's Friend. Let me tell you why. I am very fortunate in many ways, and one of them is that my office is located literally next door to a large musical instrument store, which shall remain nameless. This affords me the opportunity to just drop in for a visit and try out new musical and electronic gear any time I want. Be it lunch time, or after work, I can just stroll about 75 feet from my work place, and find myself surrounded by an array of some of the top musical instrument brands and electronics available in the world today. Yet, although I typically get to have hands on experience testing out a great deal of gear, I often find that I make many of my purchases on line, and quite frequently it is from Musician's Friend. Why would I purchase from an online musical instrument dealer like Musician's Friend when I can get the same gear from a brick and mortar store that is right by my office? There are a few reasons. One is that Musician's Friend frequently has a better price for the piece of musical equipment or electronics that I am interested in than I can get it from next door. Another reason is that the people at Musician's Friend are able to answer my questions with more clarity and authority than most sales staff that I have dealt with in some of the larger musical instrument stores in my vicinity. Being able to talk to a knowledgeable person about the pros and cons of a piece of musical or electronic equipment is very important to me, especially when I have to make a tough decision, and need some crucial bit of information necessary to make a final decision. Another reason why I deal with Musician's Friend is that they have an incredible selection of brands to choose from. They sell just about all of the top brands of musical equipment, pro audio, computer recording hardware and software, and musically related electronic gear that is available on the market today, and they sell it at a very good price. Most purchases over $99.00 are shipped free, and that is a very big incentive to me. The items which I purchased often arrived ahead of promised dates, and it is easy to track your order on line if you are so inclined. Many online retailers offer similar deals on shipping, so why do I choose to buy from Musician's Friend? Anyone who has ever ordered anything online and has had to have it delivered has probably been appropriately concerned about how their precious item is handled in transit. The more delicate the item, the bigger the concern. For example, two out of four of the last computers that I ordered online from Dell were damaged in transit, and I spent hours on the phone dealing with people in customer service in order to get a replacement or have the computer fixed, and let me tell you, there was a language barrier to boot, but I'll save that story for another review. And so it was with great distress that I discovered that the Line 6 Variax Bass I had purchased awhile back from Musician's Friend was damaged. It looked O.K., but the delicate electronics were shaken up in transit, and it just did not work correctly. I phoned Musician's Friend and was expecting the same type of runaround that I got from the Dell people in some foreign country. Instead, when I called Musician's Friend, I spoke to a sincere and intelligent customer service representative, who appologized for the inconviewnience, and he told me to ship it back, at their expense, and a new one would be shipped out. That was it. No lengthy discussions with someone who did not speak proper English, and who probably were not articulate in their own tongue either. In three days, my new Line 6 Variax Bass arrived, in perfect shape, and I have been a fan of Musician's Friend ever since. To sum it up, I have been pleased with the way I have been treated by Musician's Friend. Their sales representatives are knowledgeable, polite, and not pushy to force a sale on you. Their prices are excellent, and their service is quick. What more could I ask from an online retailer. It's good to have a friend in the music business. Well I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my review, but now if you will excuse me, I must get back to my practicing.
