Normal holidays require someone to slave over a hot stove (or in my case a smoker for the entire morning. This of course is followed by your friends and family having to spend precious time in the morning preparing a side dish. That to me is normal. What is abnormal is eating fresh oysters and having someone make you a Spanish omelet. Yet that is what we have been doing for the past several years since the passing of my grandfather. We either go to the mission Inn or the Marriott and eat a giant buffet until we have to start making extra holes in our belts because our bellies got so big. You are in a room with strange people all doing the same thing. In addition we are making cooks and servers work on our most precious of holidays. Now maybe you think that is normal. Well I dont. Is it a bad thing? No, since my grandmother is treating us. If I paid then it would be a really bad thing. "um, I think I forgot my wallet". But it is still weird eating shrimp, prime rid, lamb, oysters, eggs benedict, etc. All while avoiding the evil god of afternoon naps, the turkey. Im not too sure that I have ever seen any ask for it. In fact they might just as well have the same plastic turkey year after year and save a couple of bucks. Just like they do with dessert trays. Excuse me sir, would you like to see our tray of plastic main dishes? Ok, now thats spooky. Join in the fun. And if you still crave something about christmas that is funny and weird, or weird and funny (I always get those two mixed up) then check out this address. http://www.bruceasmith.com/fws/058_Dec05.htm |
