Bad Santa? (Reply to this comment)
by shoehorny
It was a great movie, but one of the best Christmas movies? I would replace that one with Laurel and Hardie's March of the Wooden Soldiers. Also, Die Hard comes to mind...another splendid review! Thanks!

Great selection, Barb.
Gotta say though- Sims Scrooge (although shown the most and sometimes almost too much), still remains my fave (although I'm really starting to enjoy George C. Scott's take too, as the years pass by).
Note: you may want to try and track down a copy of Silent Night Lonely Night (a telefilm that Loyd Bridges and Shirley Jones made back in 1969- written by Robert Anderson). It's a sort of Brief Encounter' meets Christmas and it's more of a moody piece but still a terrific story- and Bridges and Jones are terrific in it.

It's Just a Movie... but... (Reply to this comment)

You nailed my 2 faves NINE, Its A Wonderful Life, and TEN, Bad Santa for 2 very different reasons.
Jimmy Stewart because he can make us feel so much for his character and make us see own own lives in a better light- would I melt if Donna Reed came into my life- yes!
And Billy Bob, with that wonderful actress Lauren Graham, from The Gilmore Girls- yes it is a trip up perversity lane, but hey it's only a movie, AND it does have a happy ending with a great perf from that kid Brett Kelly, who is a real find.
Thanks for shooting me the comment- it's nice to know someone reads me.

I particularly liked POLAR EXPRESS, which I took my grand daughter to, and A CHRISTMAS STORY, which I first came across when it was a monologue for Radio, broadcast by Jean Shepherd from the Limelight in New York City.
Thank you, Barbara, for your continued trust in me.

I'm addicted to the original "Miracle on 34th Street" and "It's a Wonderful Life" too, but I'd add "A Christmas Carol" and the Bing Crosby classic, "White Christmas" to the list.
Of the post 1970 movies, the best, hands-down is "A Christmas Story", though we're pretty hooked on Tim Allen's original "The Santa Claus" too...
Ho, ho, ho!

I'm really glad bad santa mad your list. It (and badder santa) was pretty contraversial, but it proved to be entertaining and that's what counts!

I truly enjoyed reading your list of Christmas movies. Many of yours are also favorites of mine. I love It's A Wonderful Life and must agree that it is Jimmy's best role.
Happy Chanukah and Happy New Year.

Virginia..I think I read somewhere that the script was written for Barrymore since he did the radio show but he ended up not doing the movie. I cant think of the actors name off hand that did play the part..
Bad santa was really a crazy movie..I should have known you would have enjoyed it..after all we do have so much in commen.
Thanks again for one of your most appreciated comments

I shall use your list as my own. In the 1938 version of Scrooge - was that the one where Lionel Barrymore played Scrooge? I loved that one, and like you, I liked the one with Patrick.
A great list, yeah, even to Bad Santa, smutty language and all. It still made me laugh.
I hope you have a wonderful Holiday Season, and I can almost smell those ginger cookies.
