The glorious old days of the Blockbuster monopoly are almost over! The true potential of the web has been put to use here. The creators of Netflix have come up with a really clever idea that eliminates all late fees and due dates for virtually every DVD ever published.
The Process
This is a really simple concept to understand. You sign up with your credit card for 19.95 a month. You can select any DVD you want from their list and they will mail them to you in a package that you just send right back once you are done watching the DVD. You do not pay for any shipping at all. You can return it whenever you want and there are no due dates.
The selections
Netflix promises to have all the DVDs that have been published to date, which is about 10,000 and growing. They have certain rating tools that let you choose movies you would like. When i browsed for DVDs there was everything I wanted to see and more.
Time factor
The first big convenience is that there are no due dates or late fees so you don’t have to run to the video store before noon or when ever and make deadlines and get charged ridiculous amounts for each day that its late.
The DVDs are shipped to you within 3-4 days. They arrive in red envelopes. You can watch them whenever you want and then when you are done you put them into the same envelop which has a prepaid postage and just drop it off in any mailbox anywhere in the country.
Sending and Receiving
The movies are sent to you in a prepaid envelope that you use to send back the DVDs. Netflix will ship up to 3 DVD on your list and you can keep up to 3 DVS at a time. They will ship the next ones on your list once you return a DVD. So its sort of a 3 in and 3 out system.
If the DVDs are damage or lost all you have to do is report it to customer service and they will replace it. You will not be charged for that.
Postage
This is taken care of by them completely. They pay for shipping both ways all you have to do is make sure you drop off the envelop in any mailbox when you are done. The envelope is a genius idea. You rear of one layer and it becomes a return envelop that hast he postage and address and everything.
Information Safety
Netflix is ranked Number 2 in customer satisfaction right next to Amazon.com. They have all the same rules o privacy and information sharing as all the top e-commerce sites. They will not mail you any DVDs that you did not ask for.
My Thoughts
I tried it initially with the free trial thing and I loved it so much that I decided to continue. Never have a I watched such good quality movies at my own time and pace and without having to worry about late fees. Life is so much easier now when it comes to renting DVDs. Blockbuster might have to come up with a new game plan cause Netflix will be the preferred choice of DVD fans soon. They already have over 300,000 members who borrow DVDs.
Netflix is such a simple idea and such a simple process. Sometimes it might seem too good to be true but when you think about it, the Internet was meant to make life simpler wasn’t it! And if all Netflix does is to bring down the evil monopoly that is Blockbuster, I will be delighted!
If you aren’t sure then just use the trial coupon from Epinions.com or Netflix.com for two weeks. You will love it!
