firstcontact21's DO YOU KNOW CANADA QUIZ Write Off...
Jan 01 '06 (Updated Mar 08 '06)
The Bottom Line A write off to discover just how well Canada is known around the world, eh? Give it a try, you know you wanna!
Well, Americans are always being bugged about how introverted they are as a society. Many say that Americans don't know anything about other countries, including their friendly neighbour to the North, Canada.
Anyone can take this quiz, just simply remember to answer where you are from in the very last question.
Don't be shy - give it a try!
Instructions for participating in this write-off
1. Cut and paste the questions presented below into a new form. There are 41 questions broken down into 5 parts, for a total of 145 marks ;).
2. Answer them in order, without looking at anyone else's answers but feel free to try and find the answers to questions you don't know the answers to online. Here are some good sources:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada
http://canada.gc.ca/acanada/acPubHome.jsp?font=0&lang=eng
http://www40.statcan.ca/l01/ind01/l3_1762_3786.htm?hili_phys03
http://www.bankofcanada.ca/
Some of the questions could be really hard for those not familiar with Canada, although I've tried to keep them fairly simple and easy to answer. Wikipedia is a great source actually, you could probably answer all the questions by searching around on that site alone (in fact, I just took the quiz, as I will be posting the answers on February 14, 2006, and I sourced all the answers when I did it and all of them can be found at Wikipedia. But check the other sites out too as they also have very good information on them). But in the end, part of this write-off is not just to see what people know but to also help people learn a little bit more about Canada by searching around online and doing one's best to answer the questions. And some of these questions require subjective, individual answers, describing stuff like "have you visited Canada - where? when? what was that like?" And these of course are subjective answers.
3. Post your answers!
4. Post a comment to this review, or send me an E-mail at steveleenow@yahoo.com so I can list you as having participated in this write-off.
5. Being a Canadian and the creator of this quiz, I'll take the liberty of grading your responses, to see just how well you know Canada. These grades will be posted in the comment area of your post, as well as next to your name on this page where I list the write off participants. The parts of this quiz and the mark allocations for each section are as follows:
Part A: Government and Politics 10 marks
Part B: Economics 10 marks
Part C: Geography 60 marks
Part D: Entertainment, Sports & Culture 30 marks
Part E: General Knowledge 35 marks
For a total of 145 possible marks... !!! =)
6. There is no time-limit on when people have to participate by. So if you discover this write-off and it's the year 2217, feel free to answer the questions... but if I'm no longer an active member at that time, don't expect me to respond to your e-mail. But, please over the next few days, give the quiz an honest try. And maybe someone else can start other write offs like this in the future, with questions about their Country of origin... like the USA (or your home state in the USA), or the UK, or France, or wherever you may be from.
Final Note: I will post my answers to this Write-Off on February 14, 2006.
