After getting my mortgage through a local bank, my loan was sold soon after and Countrywide became the servicer of my loan. I did not chose to work with Countrywide, I got stuck with working with them.
As a servicer, they did a competent job. They posted the payments correctly and handled the escrow funds properly. Their monthly statements were easy to read and the website was fairly easy to navigate and obtain information regarding transactions and balances.
My major gripe with Countrywide was their non-stop solicitations to refinance. Until I requested to be put on their no call list, I would get at least one call per month. After I put them on their no call list, I started receiving three to four solicitation letters per month.
When I was looking to refinance my mortgage, I got an indication from Countrywide. The quote that I got was awful. The loan rate was significantly higher than what any of the local banks or credit unions were offering and the fees were astronomical.
I recently completed my refinance with a local bank, but I am still getting a steady of stream of junk mail from Countrywide. They should consider reducing their marketing costs and offer a more competitive product.
