Great, long lasting fragrance. No allergy relief but I still like it!

Written: Mar 03 '09 (Updated Mar 03 '09)
Pros:Smells great, long lasing fragrance, can be used on almost anything, versatile
Cons:Doesn't seem to reduce my allergy symptoms
The Bottom Line: Febreze Allergy Reducer is a good spray on freshener for the home, car, clothing, and almost anything else. I don't get allergy relief but I still like and use it!

I have severe allergies to dust, mold, and a host of other indoor things as well as some outdoor allergies. With winter here, I am cooped up in the house more and my allergies tend to be at their worst. When I saw Febreze Allergen Reducer on sale, I quickly bought it. I like Febreze products and, if it could possibly help with my allergies, it would have been a miracle. I still believe in miracles but Febreze Allergen Reducer wasn't one for me. I like it quite a lot but I don't notice much in the way of allergy reducing. Maybe mine are just too severe to be tackled by a simple spray.

Packaging

The bottle I bought was big - 27 ounces. I believe they make smaller bottles but this was the size on sale. The plastic bottle has a trigger spray nozzle and the mist is very fine. The scent comes on strong at first but quickly dies down and leaves the air and fabrics smelling clean and fresh.

My  Experience

I have to be careful about the sprays I use in the house because some make me sneeze and cause my eyes to run. Allergies are a real pain in the butt! Although Febreze Allergen Reducer has quite a strong fragrance at first, it has never made me sneeze or caused any issues.

I sprayed a little in the air at first just to see what the scent was like and it was great. Very fresh and very strong. I knew from experience with other Febreze products that it wouldn't stay strong for long. The scent dies down and just leaves a nice, fresh and fragrant scent behind that smells like just washed laundry.

When I sprayed my furniture and bedding, I did notice that this formula seemed "wetter" that others I have used. I may have been over-spraying. I have since lightened up on how much of the product I use on my bedding and furniture but the area is still damp for a while. Febreze Allergen Reducer doesn't stain anything that I have used it on and I have used it on almost everything, including clothing.

As far as freshening fabrics and furnishings, Febreze Allergen Reducer is great. The scent lasts for a long time and doesn't give off a fake floral scent like some fresheners do. I really enjoy jumping into bed after spraying Febreze Allergen Reducer on my bedding because it's like I just took everything out of the dryer or off the line every night.

As far as helping to reduce my allergies, I honestly didn't notice much. I did spray my pillow and blanket yet I still woke up pretty stuffy. I used Febreze Allergen Reducer every night for a couple of weeks and still, there wasn't a huge difference in how well I could breathe or how my allergies affected me. However, I still use the product all the time around the house because the scent is great, it seems to last longer than other Febreze products, and there may be a possibility that it IS helping my allergies some. With allergies like mine, no surface spray is going to greatly reduce the symptoms so I really can't fault Febreze Allergen Reducer for not relieving my symptoms much, if at all.

Although the product is slightly pricier than other Febreze sprays, I feel that, since I use Febreze products anyway, it certainly can't hurt to use the Febreze Allergen Reducer variety. I know it isn't making my allergies worse, certainly, and I am very pleased with the scent and the longevity of the fragrance. I obviously wish I could report a huge reduction in my allergy symptoms but we'll see when the weather is warmer. My allergies are less intense then (unless I run into a batch of ragweed) and perhaps Febreze Allergen Reducer will be more effective when my allergies are less intense.

Buying Info

Febreze Allergen Reducer can be purchased at drugstores and mass-market stores as well as grocery stores. Online, it is found at many drugstore sites and most sites that sell household products. The price varies depending on size of the bottle and place of purchase. I believe I paid about $6.50 for my large bottle on sale. The regular price was $7.50. Remember though, this was the big bottle and it has lasted for ages.

Conclusion

Febreze Allergen Reducer smells divine. It has a fresh, breezy fragrance that isn't a fake floral. The scent lasts for hours on fabrics and isn't overpowering at all. For allergy sufferers, the somewhat strong scent out of the bottle shouldn't cause any issues with sneezing or other fragrance induced problems. As far as reducing allergy symptoms, I really didn't see that happen even with regular use of the product. I really wanted it to, but I think my allergies are just too vicious to be tamed by a spray. Despite this, I still recommend Febreze Allergen Reducer and give it 4 stars. Its fragrance lasts a lot longer, in my experience, than other Febreze sprays so that makes it worth the few extra cents it costs per bottle.
