CONGRATS! (Reply to this comment)
by Kessec
Congratulations, my friend! I know how hard it is to quit. I dropped em in 03 myself, after 25 years -- and I was of the Dennis Leary school of thought. Swore I'd never quit. But after watching a few relatives die of cancer....that was enough for me.
I used the patch, which was a good thing because I was always one of those who lost his mind if he didn't get his nicotine fix after a few hours. The patch took a lot of the edge off, and although it didn't erase the cravings, it made them manageable. I hardly killed anyone LOL
Congrats again! Your kids and your hubby will be ever so grateful when you're still around, years from now. :D

for sharing. I hope your story motivates others. You have some good tips here that I haven't seen before. Mrs. Spudman is in her third week abstaining now. I'll share these with her.

Kris, it is nice to hear you are quitting smoking. Second hand smoke is not good for your little son too.
My father was hospitalized for pneumonia on Christmas Eve and he is still in the hospital. He now has a blood clot in his leg. He couldn't move so I had to carry him to the car and then rushed him to Emergency.
I chose never to smoke after witnessing an autopsy of a 50 year old woman who smoked for 30 years. Her lungs were black as tar (a normal human lung is pinkish in color). Not a pretty sight.

i LOVE a QUITTER (Reply to this comment)
by louisdrinkingt
I just "love a quitter" and if you will remain quitted, then a very big congratulation from me.
I was the worlds biggest ar**hole --- oops I mean the worlds biggest smoker and I stopped a hundred times.
When I finally quit...It was forever BUT I dont know if a smoker can "do it alone".
I invite you to read my epinions story and feel free to contact me.

and again "best of luck".

Good for you! For I see what COPD does to people every day and it sure doesn't look or sound fun, that's for sure.
People get very anxious when they can't breathe. What a slow and painful way to spend the time they have left :-(
For some people, "cold turkey" is the only way to go. For others, there's lots of great smoking cessation programs out there that help.
Yeah, easy for me to say since I've never been a smoker. But I'm glad you got the wake-up call you needed to start re-claiming your health again!

that you quit. So many times people try and quit when they get sick and don't. Ironically, I quit smoking three years ago and now I am starting to have breathing problems. I had asthma as a child and it seems to have come back..so I know what you are going through with all the meds and the nebulizer. It's scary when you can't breathe!

for sharing your experience. I'm hoping it will help others and they won't feel they have to wait until they experience something similar to quit themselves.
One of the ladies I work with smoked for 30 years. She married one of the oncologists here and he insisted she have a CT scan simply because she had smoked for 30 years. Turns out she had lung cancer and emphysema and his insistence on the CT Scan literally saved her life. She had immediate surgery and she is feeling fine now. Usually lung Cancer isn't diagnosed until it is too late.
