The Bottom Line It’s drinkable and enjoyable but not as memorable as I thought.
As for the Bears, a total choke.
I remember first encountering this beer at Disneys Epcot Theme Park, in the British Restaurant, where they had a menu item entitled something like Beers of the British Isles. The item consisted of 4 6oz. samples, one each of Guinness, Bass, Harp and Tennants, a Scottish beer I had never heard of before. I remember being pleasantly surprised by the taste, even enjoying it as much as Harp and Bass and better than the Guinness. The lager is brewed by the Tennent Caledoinan Brewery of Glascow, Scotland. The label reports that is has been brewed since 1885 and is the Scots Favourite Beer. Well, I appreciate a good lager. Today sees me in front of my big screen (unfortunately not high-def) TV watching my berrs in a big playoff game vs the Carolina Panthers. While the Bears arent quite as ancient, they have had a succession of really bad coaches since Da Coach, was fired by the owners family. We have had the forgettable Dave Wannstadt, who, after failing with the Bears and the Dolphins, is now trashing the Pittsburg University Panthers, Dick Jauron-stadt (last 5 letters are mine) an ineffectual coach, who earned a contract extension after having the luckiest and cheapest season as a coach in his contract year. He was last seen helping the Detroit Lions lurch through their latest abysmal season. The Bears latest coach, Lovie Smith, built a winning team base on lots of defense and a little offense. Todays playoff game is probably the third since 1988 and the previous two forays were forgettable. If the Bears play true to character, they will lose at home to a better prepared team. Still, my White Sox played great and out of character during their postseason, leading to a championship. But the Bears are already choking having let in one td on a defensive lapse and still another apparent td on a Bears catch and fumble return by Carolina. But, theres always the beer. The other interesting thing I noticed about the Tennents is that the beer is slightly small, being 11.2 oz. So here goes: The Nose A nice, modestly malty aroma, almost like bread. Plenty of bubbles rise to the top of the green bottle. The call got overturned. Its still 7-0, but I need a drink. The Pour A medium yellow lager, with a color true to style. It poured a thick head, which subsided a little, but was very long lasting. The taste Nicely carbonated, a moderate taste of malt and hops, mild flavor of fruit. It has a light body and is very drinkable. The aftertaste More bitterness on the finish, but still fairly mild, the fruitiness lingered, along with very faint malt. All in all, drinkable, enjoyable, but not as memorable than I remember. A couple of the beer review sites reported the abv at 5.0%, and I think thats right. For food pairings, I think this would go fairly well with lighter fare - sandwiches, cheese, salty snacks, pasta. I was having a pizza bialy with it and that went great. I don't know that this could stand up to a steak. Ill buy this every once in a while at $6.99 a six and I can recommend it to you. As for my Bears, they totally choked, but I did enjoy the Tennents.
