Pros:rich, bold pigment, long wearing, subtle sheen; wide variety of colors
Cons:expensive at $15 a tube
The Bottom Line: If you are skeptical about Ann Taylor's new line of lipsticks, I can assure you you will be pleased!
I've seen it happen before. I have seen various stores suddenly venture out into the field of cosmetics. Stores like Nature's Elements, The Limited, Bath and Body Works... I've fallen for this before. Tempted by the beautiful displays of color and applicators, I would purchase a cosmetic product from a company who knows little about cosmetics. For example, the driest, heaviest lipstick I ever purchased was from Nature's Elements, a bath and body store. What do they know about lipstick? What was I thinking?
Do us gals ever learn our lesson? No. But sometimes that could work to our advantage. In the case of Ann Taylor's new line of cosmetics, I was unexpectedly pleased with the lipstick I purchased.
You know Ann Taylor--wardrobes for the working women that have a wonderful sense of style and class. Silks, wools, blouses, suits...Ann Taylor is on the expensive side and waiting for your beloved item to go on sale could be a mistake. They often sell out of many sizes and do not restock when they do.
I was at the mall with a couple of girlfriends for a Friday night shopping "event". While the girls wandered around trying on tailored pants and white cotton blouses, I just stood gazing at the massive makeup display that was brand new to Ann Taylor. What am I looking at? Lipsticks. An array of colors and shades boldly stood up ready to be applied.
The cost of one lipstick was $15.00. How could I justify spending $15 on a lipstick that was from some unknown cosmetic company. I felt like taking the chance since their color choices were so appealing, but did I want to take a $15 chance? I decided to just go for it when my friend emerged from the dressing room to see what I was looking at. She had told me that Ann Taylor cosmetics were made by Clinique. She was sure of it. This gave me the reassurance I needed. Clinique's lipsticks are exceptional and if they are backing Ann Taylor, I would not be disappointed.
The Ann Taylor Nourishing Lipstick comes in a beautiful silver case. When opened, the tube is wider on the bottom and slenderizes as it reaches the top. The case is a rounded oval shape with both matte and shiny silver. It is an elegent and expensive looking tube.
I chose the color was Amber #36. I fell in love with the brownish red tones of this color. The color is rich in pigment and beautifully deep in its shade's appearance.
I was able to look under the counter at the many numbered lipsticks and easily find my #36 ready for the taking.
I appreciated taking the time to select the product myself without any saleshelp either rushing me or hard selling to make a sale.
In terms of wearability, this product goes on smoothly and richly in just one coat. The color gives off the slightest shine and shimmer, though hardly detectable, it adds a boost to the brightness of the color.
Ann Taylor's nourishing lipstick is quite long wearing. I only apply one more time during the day--after lunch. The product does not have any of that perfumy lipstick smell. However, I would not call it odorless. It has a somewhat sweet scent that is very subtle, but definitely detectable.
I find that this product stays put once it is applied. The shape of the product makes it a breeze to apply, as well.
I would go back to Ann Taylor and purchase another tube of this fabulous lipstick. I think that is the true sign of sheer happiness with a product.
Don't you just love lipstick?!
