Noirs, Neo-Noirs, and Near-Noirs: The Best Films Noir
by George_Chabot | Jan 17 '06
These films all deliver the goods in terms of flawless expressionistic cinematography, flawed characters on the highway to hell, and no happy endings. Welcome to film noir!

Hey, George great list. With respect to "Raw Deal" who, in your opinion, has the best product out there, with respect to the film to DVD transfer of this film noir gem?

I've seen a lot of them but the names do not always reflect the story so much, at least to my failing memory. Double Indemnity is a textbook example of a film done right, imho. Thanks for the recommendations!

Noir is a pretty cool genre. There are some other reviews on the ten favorites here at Epinions that you would probably enjoy reading. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. :>

I got to see a few of these films in my films class in undergrad and thought that one was really great. Did my final paper on "Mildred Pierce."

Have you seen "Shadow of a Doubt"? I'm sure you have, that was my favorite. Sooo creepy...

I really enjoyed this style of films, thanks for reminding me of that. I shall add some to my blockbuster online queue.

Nice to see a list of noir films -- there are quite a few on your list I have yet to see. I have recently watched some Hungarian film noir by the director Bela Tarr, specifically the film Karhozat (www.epinions.com/K_rhozat_Damnation). Whoa, this film really takes bleak cinematography to a new hypnotic level.
