Beautiful But Not Well-Crafted

Pros:It cooks quickly and evenly; easy to use and easy to clean.
Cons:Extended KA warranty does not cover the parts that have fallen off--control panel and vent.
The Bottom Line: Very attractive to look at, easy to use, but very poorly put together with parts that easily break.

This unit was given to me as a gift and I must say it is an impressive looking machine. Generally speaking, it is a pleasure to use. I love the automatic nightlight feature and the variable fan and surface light controls. This has every feature one could hope for in a microwave except delayed start and, maybe, conventional cooking (with convection). It was subject to a recall as a fire hazard as one part in the top of the oven which appeared to be metal was actually cardboard, which allowed grease to become trapped under the surface. Though it appeared to be clean, any grease trapped under the surface was likely the potential source of an oven fire. Also, the fasteners that hold the control panel have broken as have those that hold the vent. Neither of these things was covered by the extended Kitchen Aid warranty which I foolishly purchased. The computer, which failed within the first six months, was covered under the original warranty. I have a Kitchen Aid dishwasher that works well, but my experience with this microwave leads me to say that I would not recommend buying a Kitchen Aid product. For the price of this machine, the customer should fair better.
