Tear Jerker movies (Reply to this comment)
by milyjohnson
I really liked your list of tear jerker movies. I would like to add both versions of Imitation of Life to the list. I can't get through either movie without crying.

Ok, yeah, the Spock scene was good... but it took me at least 20 repititions of First Contact for me to not choke up with the Vulcan removes the hood of his cape-thingie.
Nice list. I haven't seen all of them, but some I definitely responated with.
Thanks for reading my WTC movie review.

What? No "Field of Dreams"? (Reply to this comment)

I just saw something recently about how that was the stereotypical most tear-jerking movie for a guy... I think a list of tear-jerkers would be hard for me to compile; there are so many out there! While very few actually make me cry, a whole lot make me feel as though I should. I think I have defective tear ducts. Probably the most emotionally affecting for me on your list is "Ghost." Man, the ending gets me every time. Also a tribute to how much of a difference music can make in movies... As for sci-fi, the end of Star Trek II really slays me. Anyway, great list!

Hey Brad,
Thanks for commenting. I think it would be very interesting to read a list of this sort from you. I'm sure it would make a great read.

..."Ghost" and "A.I." -- the former makes me think of mainly the scene in the bank (gasp! Not the pottery scene!) and the latter put me to sleep when I saw it in theatres, sadly.
Wonderful review, though!

Hey Mike.
I really love these essays. I always say this..."I ought to do one of these..." Haven't yet.
But they are fun to read.
Interesting choices.
I'm glad that The Notebook is receiving attention. I've seen it at others' lists here, and other places on the Web, for so-called "greatest" lists.
I think The Notebook is as fine of a film that I've seen in quite a long time. There are others in other genres, niches, whatever. There have been other great movies in the last ten years.
But I think The Notebook ranks right up there. McAdams and Gosling are just fantastic, and Garner is just crazy how good he plays that part. Parts of the script may be re-tread, but it's a great script, with enough twists in the plot, mixed with incredible scenery and brilliant acting, that I think this one is a classic. Yeah, a Classic. Oh and Marsden is absolutely brilliant in his supporting role. The whole show, with more than just the simple romance, is so much. What a great movie.
I love these essays. Man, I need to do one!
Thanks, Brad.

Heart-wrenching movie... (Reply to this comment)
by reginafug
This one has to be the top "tear-jerker" in my book!
We were in Sydney, Australia, for the first time. The movie came on HBO and I started to watch it while my husband (then boyfriend) was taking a shower. Needless to say, I couldn't stop watching it (nor crying). My boyfriend, annoyed with me, left me in the hotel room, and went sightseeing by himself...LOL!
Thanks for sharing,
Regina

What Dreams May Come is a movie that left me breathless and my husband and I made the 'mistake' of watching that and The Green Mile all in one night. Before the final film was over, we were both a couple of piles of goo. What Dreams May Come has a piece of my heart and it gives me extra faith that love lives on forever.
Thanks for this great list :-) Time to grab the Kleenexes!
Warmly -
- Sunni
