No Fred Astaire flicks??? (Reply to this comment)
by alocsin
No mention of the perhaps the greatest movie musical hoofer of all time? I'm shocked and appalled, I tell you, shocked and appalled ;)
Your first musical South Pacific caused quite a stir when it originally appeared on Broadway. Higher-ups wanted Rodgers and Hammerstein to delete all references to interracial marriage. But they stuck to their guns to produce a classic and one of my favorite songs:
You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff'rent shade
You've got to be carefully taught.
Thanks for the list.

If you only check out one of the three, make it RENT because it is so fabulous. I listen to the soundtrack every day and it is very motivational to me, lol. No day but today!

Hey, I did say you either love it or hate it. I love it, but it took me a couple times watching it to come to full appreciation of its fabulousity!

I've actually not seen Carousel! I'll have to add it to my Blockbusteronline queue.
Thanks for the tip ;).

I love the Lion King sooo much! It's one of the very best films for both kid and adults.
I'm glad you agreed with my list :).

I *LOVE* South Pacific!! (Reply to this comment)

...but I can't stand "Moulin Rouge" --- I'd have definitely booted that one off the list to put in West Side Story (as vicfar suggests).
(And I consider "The Blues Brothers" one of the greatest "musicals" of all time!)

I was kind of joking with the title, to be honest I don't like Sound of Music very much! My husband and I actually had a discussion about whether or not it was a good movie and he said it was, but I guess it just isn't my cup of tea. :)
It's not BAD to me, I just love all these other ones much more.
Yes, you should see Rent if you haven't Jan, it is GREAT!!!

I was surprised at the missing "Sound of Music," too, since the review's title alludes to it. For me (also not a musical buff, but seen a few), "Singing in the Rain" is the best. Thanks for the list. Best, David

Although I don't normally watch musicals, I think the best ones I ever saw are "West Side Story" and "Cabaret". For the stunning visuals, one should not forget "The Sound of Music".

Fitting List I Think (Reply to this comment)
by zenmachado
Particularly:
Lion King: Which is one of the movie that I was attached to as a child and is great even as an adult.
Chicago: For being a musical, it was pretty solid and plus the song were catchy as I don't know what.
Grease: Of course you always have to include that one.. some where in the top ten.
Great Job on The List,
ZeN
