Being able to see in the shower is also a bonus!

The Bottom Line DO IT! After the initial day, it's FABULOUS!
I had heard great things about lasik vision surgery. I wanted to get it done for a long time, but cost held me back. After I purchased a house with a pool in August, I decided that it was "time". I used my insurance flex-account and financed the small remaining balance.
The actual procedure was fine. I will say that it was quite uncomfortable and really, really weird, but not painful. I could actually see it when they cut the circle for the "flap" and again when they "brushed" it back into place. Like I said, WEIRD. I know that this is the part that makes many people stay away from lasik, but it didn't freak me out, probably because I have been sticking my finger in my eye to put contacts in since I was in 8th grade (I am 33 now).
The laser went for 30 seconds in each eye while I stared at a green light. I couldn't see well right away afterwards (I don't know how they could on those tv makeover shows). I guess I could tell that my sight was better because I could read things far away, however everything was foggy.
It got painful after I got home. NOONE told me that it would be painful! Other people told me that the whole thing was a piece of cake, even easy. Maybe I am a wuss, but I thought the burning was horrible. Terrible, terrible, horrible. I was bawling (made my husband call to make sure crying was okay - it is). Imagine the feeling of soap in your eyes...like when the soap first stings your eyes...for about five hours. That's exactly how it felt to me.
BUT................then the burning went away. I had the surgery at three in the afternoon and I went to work the next day at 2pm. Granted, I work someplace that I am able to plop drops into my eyes as needed. My eyes then felt like I was wearing really old contacts. Again, uncomfortable but not painful. By then, though, I could see BETTER than I could when I had my contacts in. Cool.
The dirty-contact feeling got better each day. It's been 13 days now, and I couldn't be happier.
I'll admit something strange: even though I didn't LIKE putting in/taking out contacts every day, I kinda had a sense of loss for about a week - probably because it was part of my routine for years and years. That, and thought patterns changed - I no longer had to remind myself that I had to take out the contacts before jumping in the shower...stuff like that. I never would have thought it was possible, but jeez, I got over it really fast. :)
It's incredible! The few hours of pain after the procedure was worth it.
