Sherrie,

I work in the eye care field and in our office we don't do a Lasik work up on anyone under the age of 21. The reason for that is the eyes can still change quite a bit and it's better to wait until 21 when the eyes are usually more stable (vision-wise). For women it can be a bit different; our office does not recommend women who plan to have more children to get it because again the eyes can change. Follow up surgery (doing it over again) is free (after the initial surgery costs) at least with us; but our office does not recommend you go through it twice if you can help it.

Hope that helps some. I'd suggest you talk to your eye care professional about it. If I could afford it, I'd do it!

Do you know what the minimum age would be to be able to have this procedure performed (not for me but for my son in the future). And are the risks low? Im also considering it but a scaredy cat.

Thanks for your review:)

I had Lasik...... (Reply to this comment)

....almost a year ago in March 2005 and it has changed my life dramatically! No more contacts. 20 years of messing around with them was plenty.

My surgery was a late one...something like 5:30 in the afternoon. They gave me Ativan and all I wanted to do when I got home was go to bed! Guess I slept through the "burning" phase you mentioned as I never experienced pain....ever.

Was 20/20 the next day and have been seeing clearly ever since. Even in the shower :-)

So glad your Lasik procedure was a success and thanks for posting your experience.
