Dear Jo: How Should I Set Up My Home Gym?
by jo.com | Mar 07 '06
You should either go with one universal piece of equipment now called a home gym or buy a bench, dumbbells, some resistance bands and a piece of cardio vascular equipment.

for sharing all of this information. We are (hopefully) moving soon and will probably be too far away from a gym to make in convenient. I'll be looking for some home equipment soon.

It sure sounds like the Gazelle which are called gliders. So gliders, striders what's a couple of letters:) jo

I don't know what the official name is. My neighbor has one that he bought at a garage sale. It's got two "walking stick" poles attached to the footpads, that you grab as you walk, so it exercises the upper body as you stride along. You can adjust the tension so you work harder or not. Pretty simple piece of equipment. He called it a 'strider," but I'm not sure that's the right term.

I think you are talking about the Gazelle's - Tony Little's equipment? jo

The thing I'm interested in is a strider, sort of like an elliptical thing but without the elliptical motion - just back and forth on plates. But they are hard to find. I need to do my exercising early in the morning or I don't do it at all, and walking early around here can be dicey because of mountain lions, so short of getting a big dog, I think I'll have to work out indoors.

Thanks what a nice comment. Still there's nothing like a gym for motivation as long as it is close enough that you'll go:) If you have any questions or want to just pick my brain, feel free to e-mail me. jo

I learned a lot about home fitness equiptment from your review. I am currently paying a LOT of $ for the YMCA and i love it, but by now I coulda bought my own equipment and more.

Nice job with your "advice column" here...
