Jacqui: Young love and the silly cynic (Updateghost’s Rate Your Ex W/O)

The Bottom Line Love is wasted on the young, especially if they date idiots.

What you need to know
This is part two of my contribution to Updateghost’s Rate Your Ex writeoff. This is surely one of the weirdest ideas ever to see the light of day, but it appealed to me, so here I am.

I’m systematically going through all my exes from last year, starting off with Hazel and continuing all the way through to…well, you’ll just have to wait and see. I stole the rating system I’ll be using from my last ex (ironic, I know), and it's based on "the five languages of love" (I'm still in the dark about this bit of weirdness, too). But my actual final rating will come from what I hope is a much deeper place…

Without further ado, I give you…

Jacqui
The next stop on the 2005 love rollercoaster was Jacqui. She was younger – I actually met her while filling in for a friend as a tutor. That sounds ethically sketchy, but it really wasn’t, honest! We had coffee afterwards (I don’t know why), and then we ended up kissing (I don’t know how). She was fun and free and very alive, but, like I said, she was young. I cheated on her, and then I dumped her. I was wrong, and I’m not proud of what I did, but we were never meant to be. That’s no excuse, though. Anyway, we still ended up pretty good friends for a while. That ended because she felt that us being together all the time and not being together wasn't doing her any good. The only good thing I did for her is give her that. We've spoken a few times since, but I actully do miss her a bit.

Quality Time: Lotsa fun times. I used to hang out with her peeps sometimes, and we’d do all the stuff that’s so new and exciting to youngsters that I hadn’t done in a while (like going on a rollercoaster, not that I’d missed it). Kinda made me feel young (or at least younger) again.

Physical: She was relatively inexperienced, but she certainly wasn’t shy of public affection. I am, though, so that was a bit awkward. But we had some good times…

Affirmations: She constantly told me how much she loved me. I figured she was young and it’d pass.

Gifts: She gave me books and stuff by the truckload. I’ve still got a lot of it. I gave her some really boring scientific papers and stuff. I really am a crappy boyfriend.

Sacrifice/compromise/whatever: Umm. I helped her out with her coursework when I could’ve been doing my own. On the other hand, I did set her to doing gruntwork on my projects. So I guess it evens out in the end.

Rating: 3 stars
Why: Hot, refreshing, fun, always made me smile. But young people can be so annoying, what with their inability to see life as a deep dark hole. Bleh.

What I learned: Don’t date people who’re too young to be jaded and cynical. Don't be a stupid selfish bastard. And try to be a better friend.
