The Bottom Line Non fiction because I eventually will build this
Building my dream pc, I will list what I would like to have in it then I will list what I can afford. I am limited by what I can spend per month($200 to $250) plus I want to build this pc by this summer while Windows Vista is still in beta. I will also give a run down of each of my choices. Parts for this PC MSI K8n NEO4 Platinum $130 AMD X2 X64 4800+ $658 (AMD X2 X64 3800+ $330) Ultra Mid Tower case/Ultra V Series Power Supply $70 4 gig Dual-DDR PC3200 memory $400 (1gig Dual-DDR PC3200 $95) Ultra Floppy drive w/All in One Media Reader $30 WD 320 gig SE Harddrive $140 (WD 200 SE $90) Nec ND3550A DVD +-RW DL $45 eVGA Geforce 7800 GT $300 (eVGA Geforce 6200 w/Turbo Cache $60) Windows XP Pro OEM $130 (probably use Vista should be good enough by then) Total for Dream Machine $1903 Total for what I will buy $850 As can be seen above that what I would like to buy and what I can afford is two different things. The one I will buy will still be a High level PC and one I believe many gamers would like to have. Plus I think if I did build the other one they would absolutly drool over that one. Since I'm not a gamer, the one I will build should do me for more than just a little time. I figure it will be about August before I have all the parts but for a PC like this I can wait. Motherboard Now I have built/rebuilt 3 MSI computers in the last year and their motherboards are of the highest quality. How do I know this, a little about me. 1 I have been into electronics since 1960-first as a Aircraft Electronic Navigation Equipment Repairman 2 1964 to 1966-I went to Junior college and got a AA Degree in Electronics 3 Been a Amateur Radio Operator for 30+ years 4 Over the years have built many electronic kits and from scratch electronics 5 Since about 1987, I have built my own computers so far about 25 6 Since December of 1997 MS Beta Tester As can be seen I know computers and know what I am looking at. I have used many differant manufacturers motherboards and MSI is the best I've seen so far. CPU I have used AMD cpu's since I started building/rebuilding my own pc's. I have found that by using AMD instead of Intel, I get more for my money. The AMD 64 X2 4800+ is the top of the heap but then from what I have read the AMD 64 X2 3800+ beats the Intel top of the line cpu's. Case/Power Supply As I have reviewed before I have used and am using these parts from Ultra. I wrote a review on this very power supply and about power supplies in general. In fact I think that the power supply is one of the most important parts of a pc. For why read this http://www.epinions.com/content_217737694852 . Memory Sure I'd like the most memory but for the most part for what I do the 1 gig of DDR2 memory will just do me fine/ Floppy Drive Since the floppy anymore is used so little, if it is going to be there I might as well make use of it, plus by putting a media reader with the floppy drive it is just one less 5 1/4 space being used. Harddrive Sure I like the bigger space but I can get more later and it will take a while to use the 200 gig hd. By then I will either have more ide drives in or be using S ATA drives. Video Card I don't really need a topof the line as I'm not a gamer so the one I included will suit me just as well. Operating System By the time I get this built Vista should be almost out of beta and I will be using that as my OS. Plus I will be able to see what it can do compared to Windows XP Pro. On assembly I built and reviewed the current computer that I'm currently writting this review on. I'm pretty proud of it as it took me 3 weeks on how I did it.Since that time I rebuilt it and added a new cpu(Sempron X64 3300+) plus a Ultra V Series 500watt PSU. If you want to read it, it is here http://www.epinions.com/content_212085149316 You can use this as a guide on building your own, can not guarentee anything but it will help. http://www.epinions.com/content_187014155908 |
