The Bottom Line Why anyone gets hurt feelings over skate reviews makes no sense. If they work for you great! Just don’t expect me to tell it other than how I see it.
Hey Puckmugger, I come across your review on the net about the Vapor XXX. I pulled it up because I wanted to give a friend some information on these awesome skates.First af all I really am p¡ssed off with your article. I hate when people have an opinion about something they know totally nothing about. You are a goalie. That says most of it. Mabey stopped to many pucks ?? I played a little upper level hockey myself back in the days when CCM Ultra Tacks seemed to be the skate. I loved them. When teaching a hockey school about 5 years ago CCM game me a pair of 1052's. I hated them. I kept trying to like them though and put up with foot cramps, stiffness, etc. for about a year and a half. I switched to the Bauer XX. Awesome !!!! Off the shelf, in the skate warmer, on the ice. Felt like I had them on for years. My boy plays rep hockey and we both now enjoy the Vapor XXX's. Again awesome !! There isn't one thing you said in that article that is true about the skate. As a hockey instructor I get an opportunity to try many brands. CCM, Mission, Graf, none compare even close. Look on the ice. At any given Jr A, Senior or Pro game more than 50 % are wearing them, sometimes alot more. I guess they are all wrong too. I like opinions from people to help make choices. But not from people who have not a clue what there talking about. You probably have an opinion about what it's like to walk on the moon as well !!! Best Regards, Jeffrey Jeff, Thanks for your email. I certainly appreciate your opinion on the Vapor skates. However, it seems that you are the one who is confused. I play goalie once a week. I skate out five times a week. I'm also a pro shop manager who has had to deal firsthand with the mistakes that Bauer makes in the form of angry customers. The Vapor skate line has created more angry customers than any product I can think of. I think I made the reasons for my rating pretty clear in my review and I will stand behind them regardless of who is upset by them. Having seen dozens of Bauer's Vapor series not last even six months, there is absolutely no way to claim that these are good skates for the average hockey player. Yes, there are a lot of players in pro and college hockey using Vapors. But let's keep in mind that they aren't paying $400 or $500 for a skate that they likely replace three or four times a season. Now recreational players won't go through more than a pair a year. Still, do you know a lot of recreational players who would like to spend five hundred dollars a year on skates? I know that 90% of the people I sell skates to expect them to last several years. I expect that the people reading my reviews will have the same hope for what they buy. I'm glad that you've had good luck with your Vapors. Not every skate is going to work for every player. And yes, I even know a few people who love their Vapor skates. But let me assure you that you are in the minority. I'm sorry that you found my review so offensive that you had to send me angry email. But I suggest you get thicker skin. It's pretty strange to let something so trivial as a stranger's opinion upset you so much . . . unless it's because you realize I'm actually right. Best, Scott P.S. I have no interest or opinion about walking on the moon but I did add a one year update to the Vapor XXX review which you might be interested in - Bauer Vapor XXX Skates |
