I was stunned when I stumbled across this website again. Many years ago I used to be into some of those "Get Paid To" websites across the Internet. Volition.com was a place that I used to go to periodically to find some of these websites. They were always trustworthy and would give you a brief description of what different sites were like with payout structure, type of site, and whether Volition themselves have been paid from the site or not. They also offered other websites that you could find "free stuff". That has always been their motto for the most part, "free". After finding the site again, I decided to dig around for a while and see what the site was like after all this time. It had been around 10 years since I had found them originally. The sites core seems to be the same however, they have grown since the last time I was here.
If you are not familiar with this website, Volition.com is more like a collection of other websites that offer something that is mostly free. This could vary from "Get Paid To" websites, sites about "Food & Recipes", to "Coupons & Outlet" sites. When you first arrive at the website, you will notice a Yahoo.com kind of feel to it. Very few pictures, a few advertisement banners, and a lot of text that are links. The god thing about this is, the pages load very fast which is something I have always liked about Yahoo myself. I dislike websites that try and make their website look all fancy with cool looking link buttons, pictures, music, etc.. Although this does make the website look better but, they tend to run slow and sluggish. Especially for anyone that still uses a Dial Up connection. Volition.com does not slow the site up with unnecessary "stuff" but, you will notice quite a lot of adverting banners spread throughout the site.
Website Layout:
The site is basically a search engine to websites in certain categories. On their homepage there is a short introduction of what the website is about. On the left side you will see links to all of the different categories found inside the site. As your scroll down, the same text links to the different categories are there with a very brief description of what you will find in that category. There is also a search button that you can search the websites by keywords. For example, one of the links is Try To Win Free Stuff. Next to the link is a short description saying "Try your luck, prizes range from total crap to t-shirts to computer stuff to cash, trips and cars". By clicking the link you are taken to another page with links to some sub-categories. These sub-categories place the different websites into a more refined area. Inside the different sub-categories are a lot of links to various websites that you can win free stuff at. Next to each website link is a small and quick description about what you can win at that particular website. By clinking a link you are then taken to the actual website. These sites don't open in a new window so if you want to look at a website, and want to stay at Volition website as well, you need to open the new website in a new window manually. This format stays true with every category on the website.
The website also has forums that you can chat with others about different things. I did a search for fun with their search button on Epinions and found two different forum threads. They were old threads but, I just wanted to see what I would find. I also did find a link to Epinions and a short description in their "Get Paid For Surveys" category. The website is easy enough to navigate through and they do have quite a lot of different websites that they advertise in each category. I do have a complaint and that is, there is no particular organization throughout the site. The websites are in certain categories based on what they offer but, they look like they are just kind of tossed in them. They are not in any kind of specific order so I don't know if Volition is just advertising them or if they are recommending them since they are on their site. Searching throughout the website can take more time than it should and can be a little confusing. Also, as you get deeper into the categories while searching, the website becomes riddled with advertising banners. For example, the sub-categories are separated by an advertisement banner each time. This did start to slow down load times from page to page and just got a little annoying to look at the more I searched. In all, the layout of the website has a good idea and the sheer amount of websites that can be found are quite impressive (even though I did find a couple of "Dead Links".
Conclusion
Volition.com has a good idea and the site has been around for quite a lot of years. I did do some searching and found quite a lot of other websites with the same idea of finding "free stuff". Seeing these other websites, Volition.com seems out of date and the website a little unorganized. After using them in the past, and spending the amount of time I did on the site again, I wouldn't recommend others to go and have a look. You may find something on the site that may interest you but, it may take way to much time to find it. I will stick with search engines to find what I am looking for because I will find more up-to-date sites and faster results.
Thank you for your time.
