Thanks for sharing your experience and on-line wisdom. I have made several mistakes since I discovered this community, which I wish I could go back, erase and start over - however, like life, I will just have to take it on the chin, learn from it and try to do better.

At least you haven't been blocked. The unfortunate part of this advice section is no one thinks to look here until they've been around a while. By that time, lots of damage can already be done. It sure didn't take long for me.

Wouldn't you know it? I blew it. This was my fourth anniversary on Epinions. It doesn't seem like it's been that long. Math never was my best subject.

Hi Gill and Mobi.
I don't remember Mobi being at the London M&G, but I'm sure he would've made it even more lively.
Personally, I prefer the WOT/block system here when compared to the one on Ciao!, where I've seen some members be really snarky. You can "trust" over there, but that's it. Having the ability to block sort of balances things out.
Hats, which can be a transient status, aren't the only factor that determine how a review places in a stack. Overall rating and number of rates fit into the equation as well. More non-member hits come from Google searches, at least from my experience. I have several reviews that are not searchable via Epinions and they're still getting hits. I doubt those users are looking through the catalog on my member page.

Gee, Mobi, I may have the TR status, but my presence on Epinions is still more humble than yours. This is my 174th posting, but I only have 6,824/31,412 hits compared to your 166 postings with 45,620/578,106 hits. I'd say you have a higher profile on the site than I do. People are more likely to recognize your user name than mine.
However, I do agree the politicking on the site can be infuriating sometimes. The WOT and Blocking are all politics, but not everyone's reasons for using these features are bad. If users are altruistic in their rating, I suppose I can live with that.
Is there any chance we can talk you into writing more movie or travel reviews?

I had no idea epinions was so complex. Perhaps my VH is a reverse method of giving a revenge review =p
Seriously though, I might have to book mark this for future reference. Nice tutorial/informational on epinions... especially for new users.
