ed grover: final information
Feb 22 '06
The Bottom Line If there are cats in heaven Ed is getting mobbed, and if there aren't it isn't heaven anyway.
Last night the call came, sooner than I had expected: Ed Grover had died at 3:50 on the previous night, never having awakened from a three-day coma. He had been somewhat coherent on Friday (and entirely so when I had called him earlier last week). The last and most difficult stage of his death from cancer cannot have lasted very long.
Less than two weeks ago Ed still spoke of going back to the hospice's computers "soon", and his condition and comfort level were such that we both believed this might be possible. I did keep him apprised of the comments left on the two previous messages about his cancer, and Epinions member eplovejoy sent him hardcopy of all the latest-posted contributions to the Ed Grover Write-Off. Always modest, Ed remained amazed by the amount of respect and affection his writing had earned him here. He would surely want to thank all of you again for your good wishes, prayers, tributes, messages and hugs!
Those who read the reviews of ed_grover knew the man who wrote them, for his personality came through in his writing, without artifice but always with style! Those whom he knew still better will never forget his kindness, sympathy and encouragement.
Ed is survived by a sister, a niece, the AA group in which he remained sober for over two decades, the gay community of Milwaukee, the Epinions community and many other friends. At his request I am changing the message under his icon here to give only the years of his birth and death. He lived to be seventy-four. He lived fully. We loved him.
